A bookish update in the form of the #thelastbookthati tag ✨ The last book I started - (and din’t finish yet) Butter , been reading it for so long now and it’s a very slow burn for my taste (although it is interesting ) 🧈 ✨ The last book I finished - The Lowland , absolutely loved this book and the characters will live in my head rent free for a long time to come . Lahiri is my queen duh !👑 ✨ The last book I was gifted - The God of the woods - my most anticipated book of the year and am so excited to read it . Thanks to for gifting this book to me ❤️ ✨ The last book I cried at - All the colours of the dark . I did not cry or sob but I did tear up at more than one instance and it overall felt very heavy . Also I highly recommend the book 💯 ✨ The last book I didn’t finish - I am not someone that very easily gives us on books yet for some reason I could not get into Trespasses and it was a DNF for me ✨ The last book I loved - The Shadow of the wind . Loved this book with all my heart and Fermin oh my Good lord I don’t know when was the last time I loved a fictional character so much ✨ The last book I didn’t love - really didn’t get the hype with wrong place wrong time ! 🏷✨MyBookConfessions Here is my mid-year book confession post. I’ll tag a few friends to post their own confessions but goes without saying - if you’re seeing this, you’re in! The more The merrier ! It will make everyone happy to see that we’re all in the same boat. So Tag along! #mybookconfessions ✨My Last DNF 📚 ~ for the time when my mind refused to follow the story line, kept wandering off until I gave up on the book~ ✨Still Simping over This 📚 ~for the story that my mind just refuses to let go. I know this will stay with me forever. But unfortunately it means that I will not be able to read another novel until I have savoured every last bit of this feeling~ ✨Book I’m scared to Read 📚 ~this is a multiple award winning author, the story is replete with history, politics and real life discussions. From my past encounter with this author I know that the writing is engaging. I haven’t read this book, but I know enough to know that it’s good. & All these accolades are keeping me from reading it~ ✨The Ten Page Roadblock 📚 I have had this book for years. I have read it for years. But only the ten pages. The first 10 pages were so impactful that I remember every line of it. Now, I want to take it all in, and I’m afraid that once I read it I might forget, so it has been lying on my bookshelf waiting for its time~ ✨Too good to DNF 📚 It’s too real. It’s history, but so much of it reminds me of the present, the present that I currently occupy, that it’s difficult to brush past that, so the escape out of reality is both possible and impossible with this book, which is so emotionally triggering that I am pretty much crawling through it. #qotd Do you like miniature gifts...? . Rating 4 🌟🌟🌟🌟 . Review: Set in seventeenth century Amsterdam--a city ruled by glittering wealth and oppressive religion. The story starts when a young, Nella Oortman is shipped off to marry a wealthy merchant of Amsterdam she is excited at the prospect of being a married woman. However, the marriage is not what she hoped; it turns out to be terrible and cold. Her husband ignores her and shows no signs of wanting intimacy with his new bride; his sister lives with them and she is a bully and takes charge of the home. Thus, Nella wants to run back home but, she can’t because if she did she would never discover why the miniaturist is sending her so many miniatures; they begin to haunt her life in disturbing ways, so she stays to find out why. The miniatures are a frightening reflection of her messed up marriage; they change as the characters change or vice-versa . They haunt her life as more and more arrive on her doorstep. Each one is more revealing than the last and harbours intimate knowledge of her secrets. How the Miniaturist acquired such knowledge is unfathomable and disturbing. It is never completely answered; it is more open to interpretation. This makes the ending of this book perfect and cliffhanger/open ending, but it's tragic for the characters involved. But, the Miniaturist remains shrouded in mystery; she remains an ethereal entity that is the heart of this book; she drives the events forward, somehow, and makes the book special. The Miniaturist’s reasons, and the effects she causes, are completely open for the reader to decide. The Miniaturist may be a crazy stalker person or he/she may be something much more. What keeps me going? Well this is not news that Instagram is not instagramming anymore. Creating for my page used to be a very exciting thing for me but it has become a very different ball game now. Anyway, the point of this post is not to start a crib fest. Quite the contrary. I am still posting here and I wanted to be honest with myself about the ‘why’ of it. So, here are my reasons, why I still post on Instagram. 1. Love of books and reading - obviously, duh! 2. Book nerds - I love interacting with my book nerd friends over here, more so coz I hardly have any irl😛 3. Creative outlet - I crib but I create again, coz sometimes, creating is the therapy one needs 4. My virtual reading journey- the urge to record what I read, certainly plays a part 5. Habit - it has been nearly four years since I started this page and sharing my opinions about books is sort of a habit now I’d say🤷🏻‍♀️ Your turn now. ❄️Hello March ❄️ first day of the month started with the first snow of the year and Here is my very very optimistic and ambitious march TBR. The reason I say so is one of these books is 700+ pages and another 450+ pages long ! But a girl can try, no!? 💌 #theheartsinvisiblefurries by #johnboyne has been on my TBR since ages . A long time before I moved to Ireland and realised it was an Irish fiction, I added it to after my booksta bestie @hemareads loved this book and raved about it. Reviews from @spoonfulofpages and @the.bookish.epicure pushed this book high up on my TBR and so here we are -buddy reading this one with Siba from @quills_and_inkpot 💌 #theislandofseawomen by #lisasee is my pick for both #koreanmarch and #12months12books recommended by 12 friends , challenge . This was recommended by Becca from @books.by.bec 💌 #longisland by #colmtoibin is my most antiacipated book of the year . It is the sequel to Brooklyn and am super excited for it. Thanks to @bookbreakuk for this review copy 💌 #themuseumoffailures by #thrityumrigar I have heard so much about this author and finally I have her recent release in my hands (thanks to @_swiftpress ) 💌 #penance by #elizaclark I have read and heard some rave reviews on this one and I see it on 9 out of 10 prediction stacks for 2024 Women’s prize fiction ! Whether it is a candidate or not I bet it’s going to be an amazing read. Planning to make slow progess everyday . Buddy reading this tome with @hemareads because I sure can’t do this alone but #ilovefatbooksandicannotlie 📚#anxiouspeople by #fredrickbackman is the September #bookofthemonth for the #bookclub I host (@bookeaters_club ) I have a paperback and a hardcover copy of this book and for some reason I started listening to it on audio last night and now am hooked to the #audiobook 📚#thehouseofdoors by #tantwaneng Buddy reading the #bookerlonglist with folks from #theunofficialbookclub . Planning to start this one tomorrow and we’ll see how that goes . Lets hope my mood reading doesnt get in my way and make me lose focus of my TBR which almost happens 99.9% of the times 😂 because in the end am a #moodreader and its very hard to go by a set TBR but hey a girl can try !
