I’ve been doing a series of films for @blackdiamond since 2016. They started with a film called “The Lifer” about @russ_clune_lifer and @bookofsamuel wanting to shine a light on Russ. Then I did my most personal film that was about one of my oldest friends @boonespeed called “The Artist”. Then one on my friend @maria.cranor who cofounded Black Diamond and mentored dozens of people (or hundreds…) to be the best versions of themselves, called “The Mentor”. But the story leads to this- the first CEO and founder, Peter.
It’s been a year of chasing him around trying to keep up with him. It’s finally going out into the world today. And it wouldn’t have been possible without Rachel’s help. And all the amazing people that helped me make it. Thanks to all of you.

Sports gave me a way to tune out the chaos and find focus.

For @boonespeed, climbing (and even risky choices as a teen) were ways to quiet the noise and discover a sense of peace. Sometimes, it’s about finding that flow state where everything else fades away.

I left a recent Roster Room session with Hence Creative thinking about a simple question that is much harder than it sounds:

Who are you, and why should anyone care?

I realized I did not fully know how to answer that.
Not because I lack something unique, but because I rarely pause to question how I see myself as a designer.

In the days after the session, I found myself unpacking old insecurities, the art versus design debate, and why I have always felt caught between purpose and emotion.

That reflection turned into a new article.
If you have ever struggled with identity, imposter syndrome or finding your place in the creative world, this one might resonate.
