올해도 포스트시즌 진출에 실패한 애슬레틱스, 가장 최근에 경험한 포스트시즌 진출은 2020년입니다. 당시 코로나19로 인해 60경기 단축시즌을 치른 뒤 와일드카드에서 화이트삭스를 만났는데요.
1차전을 내줬으나, 2~3차전을 내리 이기며 디비전 시리즈 진출에 성공했습니다. 무려 14년 만에 이뤄냈던 포스트시즌 시리즈 승리, 그 순간을 리와인드합니다.

2020년 와일드 카드에서 화이트삭스를 제압하며 7년 만에 디비전 시리즈를 밟은 애슬레틱스, 그러나 최전성기를 달리던 애스트로스는 강력했습니다. 1-2차전을 연달아 패하며 탈락 위기에 놓였죠.

3차전도 패배가 아른거리던 상황, 7회 핀더의 동점 홈런에 이어 8회 머피의 희생플라이로 극적인 역전승을 만들어냈습니다. 마무리 핸드릭스가 3이닝을 무실점으로 책임지며 마침내 거둔 시리즈 첫 승, 그리고 이 승리는 현재까지 애슬레틱스가 포스트시즌에서 거둔 마지막 승리입니다.

코로나19로 인해 다저스타디움에서 진행된 시리즈, 그 경기를 리와인드합니다.

Congrats to former Chicago White Sox closer and 2x AL Reliever of the Year Liam Hendriks on a great MLB career.

Very few players in the game outwardly exhibit the level of fire, intensity, and passion that Liam did. He was the true embodiment of what it meant to play baseball on the South Side.

Liam’s courage to tackle his cancer diagnosis head-on and make his way back to the mound was incredibly inspiring, and it was an honor to be at the ballpark to witness it. Above all else, though, just a great human being who did a lot for the community during his time here.

Here’s a photo I took immediately after Liam threw his final pitch in a White Sox uniform.

Well mate, you did it.

You really squeezed every last drop of juice out of this thing.

What a ride.

I’ll forever be grateful to you and Kristi…not just for trusting me to be your agent, but for letting me into your lives and allowing me to have a seat at the table for all of it.

And what a team you two are.

Some of my favorite memories won’t be the contracts, the saves or the All-Star Games. They’ll be the late-night convo’s and the verbal wrestling matches where the three of us would argue our way toward the right answer, somehow finishing each other’s sentences along the way.

It’s seriously hard to explain to people about how well it worked. We always just understood each other.

There are careers you measure in years and accomplishments. And then there are careers you measure by how much someone managed to get out of it. Every opportunity, every challenge and every damn moment they were given.

You did that.

You attacked hitters. You battled some serious adversity. And when cancer had the misfortune of stepping into the box, you beat that too.

So while we don’t necessarily know what comes next for you, I do know I wouldn’t want to be standing in your way.

There’s nothing you can’t do, mate. Whatever this next chapter becomes, I’ll be sitting courtside with a smile on my face, popcorn in hand, grateful that I got to be part of the first act and excited as hell to witness the next one.

To you and Kristi: thank you for the trust, your friendship, the laughs, and the tears. It was an incredible ride.

One that has been one of the great privileges of my career.

Dear @hendriks_31 ,
My name is Mia, and I'm not sure if you remember me from Chicago, but I'll remember you forever. We met when I was 7 years old, and you were the first person to ever sign for me at a White Sox game. Then you kept stopping, learned my name, and always took the time to make me feel special when I went to games with my Dad. @k_hendriks even told me you guys had my picture in your living room one time.

When my Dad told me you had surgery that Tuesday after we saw you the Sunday before, I cried. When he told me you beat cancer, I cried being happy for you, he knew he couldn't even tell me until you were in the clear. When you went to Boston, I did NOT like that you wouldn't be in Chicago anymore, but we went to the games when you were in town. When he told me you might be back in Chicago this year, I was so happy at the chance to see you, even though it was for the Cubs (The Cubs are okay too, but go White Sox. Lol).

Yesterday he told me you retired, and as much as I hate that I'll never see you pitch again, I'm happy that you and Kristi get to enjoy life however you'd like. My Dad still gets me everything he can of yours for my collection, it's my favorite part, and I really think I have the best Liam collection in the world. I have 3 of your game used jerseys now! My Dad let me make this page to show my sports experiences, but really I just hoped to contact you and show how much I appreciate everything you and Kristi did for me in Chicago. You're my favorite athlete in the world, and probably the reason I still love waiting for players to this day. I thought it was bad, but my Dad told me retirement is a good thing, it means you finally get to relax and really enjoy life. I'm so happy you guys get to do that now, so congratulations on your retirement, and thank you for everything!
