We’re very happy to share that our Adult Play Space took home an A-List Award this year!

This was such a fun space to design, and seeing it recognized makes it even more special. We were also honored to be named a finalist in the Modern Architecture category alongside some incredibly talented firms.

A big thank you to @athomefc and the A-List Awards, and to everyone who had a hand in bringing this project to life. And an especially fun night getting to celebrate with my daughter by my side. We’re grateful to be celebrating this one!

A staircase like this only works when every trade builds as one. In a typical house, the stair builder, metalworker, and millworker each come in and do their part independently. Here, nothing could be separate, and it took round after round of shop drawings to make every piece come together.

Most of the structure is hidden. The steel is carried inside the treads, and there is no visible stringer along the wall because it is concealed within the paneling. What remains visible is intentional. The stainless steel screws sit exactly where we wanted to reveal how the stair is assembled, and the handrail is joined with mortise and tenon rather than a simple miter, so you can feel the joint beneath your hand as you climb.

A dining table is something we use every day, but the experience of it can feel entirely different depending on how it’s shaped. Here, the lighting does more than illuminate. It draws the table together, creating a sense of focus and intimacy without feeling overly formal.

The introduction of color works in a similar way, softening the space and adding warmth so it feels lived and collected. When those elements come together, the room becomes less about the act of dining and more about what happens around it. It’s what makes people settle in, stay a little longer, and feel at ease.

I’m double posting because I don’t think I expressed enough awe the first post. My baby brother has aspired to be an architect basically since he could write. He drew mock floor plans a long with his ABCs. He was born for this. We always knew he would be an architect and designer but he has made this for himself. He went through rigorous schooling and even more rigorous NYC studio life. We are so proud and so grateful! @archdigest @henryboylestudio I wish I knew how to do the link on here but f’ing google it! https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/henry-boyle-nantucket-compound I love you, Henry!
