DAY 28 OF 30 | ERYKAH BADU — “CUSTOMER SERVICE IS CLOSED” @erykahbadu

Erykah Badu is not the kind of artist you explain casually.

You either listen with some interior responsibility, or you miss the point while admiring the packaging.

Today’s Black Music Month tribute is for an artist who has always understood that access is not ownership. That being inspired by a woman does not mean you are entitled to decode her. That reference is not research. That proximity is not comprehension. That a sound can be widely loved and still remain privately governed.

“Customer Service Is Closed” is about Badu as boundary, brilliance, wit, refusal, sensual intelligence, and sacred self-definition without overexplaining herself for anybody’s comfort.

From Baduizm to Mama’s Gun, Worldwide Underground, New Amerykah, Return of the Ankh, and But You Caint Use My Phone, her catalog does not beg to be understood. It asks whether you came prepared to listen beyond convenience.

Erykah Badu did not build art for casual access.

And that is exactly why the work still feels protected, necessary, and impossible to mishandle without revealing yourself.

Let me speak for the 4C, thick hair girls for a second… 🖤 Because if you know, you KNOW our hair doesn’t play about moisture. I tried products that sat on my hair… products that lied to my coils…products that left me drier than before. But this combo right here? @aussiehaircare Miracle Moist Shampoo + Conditioner + Ultra Wonder Mist… BABY. It delivered. 👏🏽 My strands felt soft not coated. Detangling? Smooth. Shrinkage? Still there (because HEALTHY), but the definition? Whew. And that mist sealed everything in like my hair had been waiting on it. 4C hair is not “hard to manage.” It just requires the right kind of care and when you find it, everything changes. This is hydration. This is softness. This is respect for our texture. 💜 If you’re a thick 4C girl tired of wasting money… this might be your reset. 🖤 You know I’m protecting my crown at all costs. Tagging the moisture that understood the assignment 💜
