POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hello🩷 we’re happy you’re here, relatives! Our episode with @amrpodcast just dropped this week— give it a listen to learn more about NDN Girls Book Club, the importance of Indigenous storytelling, the problematic histories of Western education for our communities, and the realities we must now navigate as contemporary and diverse peoples representing ourselves. We love that this conversation is rooted in Indigenous feminisms in particular, one of the driving forces behind the work we do as a collective group of educators, students, and friends. ✨🧚🏼

You can listen wherever you get your podcasts 🧚🏼✨📚 and we’ll see you at BOOK CLUB!

Our communities have the power to empower ourselves, that is the work of @ndngirlsbookclub, which they explain is not radical, but kinship in practice. How can the books we read be radical acts of love for our communities? Comment below to tell us how you build community around books. And as always, you can listen to this full episode!!! ♥️

Hi, we’re glad you’re here! We’re just saying hi. Social media is overwhelming. Getting requests is overwhelming. Not everyone is kind about it 🩷🫶 we understand. Please get off your phones 🤣

We come from all over and choose to do this because we love it. We talk openly about books as suicide prevention because we know exactly what that’s like. 🫂 It’s scary right now. We understand.

Congratulations to our MFA student Kinsale Drake and the NDN Girls Book Club for being featured on the TODAY Show this week. ✨️📚

NDN Girls Book Club is a not-for-profit literary organization run by Indigenous youth & educators that hosts free writing workshops & author talks, uplifts Indigenous literature, supports Indigenous booksellers, and distributes free books by Indigenous writers. They began in 2023 as a grassroots effort led by Indigenous students and successfully mailed out over 2,000 care packages to tribal libraries, youth, and Native families containing books by Indigenous authors. AHHHHHHHH~ I adore @ndngirlsbookclub so much! Everything they're doing brings tears to my eyes. 🩷🩷🩷🎀 Grateful to work with you all.

Beautiful interview, @kinsalehues and @herculilz. Everything so wonderfully said. @tristandouville

Check out the full interview with Jenna & Sheinelle on Today.com:

"Best friends Kinsale Drake and Lily Painter join TODAY's Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones to talk about their book club that spotlights native storytelling and indigenous authors. With less than 1% of published authors being Native, the ladies are on a mission to "make sure that native voices are breaking through that barrier." The club now hosts pop-up events, distributes books, and even created a mobile book bus to make indigenous literature accessible."

Why do the stories we teach our children matter? Stories are more than just words on paper. They code our realities; they connect us; they teach us to be good to each other, if we let them. If we make it so🩷🫶

Huge thank you to the Today Show for having us on to talk about stories, books as portals and hope for all of us, and the importance of nurturing and guiding our youth.

We hope that you spend time today listening to the stories of this land, and giving back to movements rooted in place, community, and kinship. Indigenous Peoples Day is everyday 🫶🩷 welcome to Book Club!

Check out our updated site, featuring an Indigenous bookstores “map,” poet resources, workshops, lesson plans, reading lists, articles, and more.
