Easily the most challenging year I’ve probably ever had on multiple fronts, iykyk. I still choose to be grateful for all the positives and lessons learned. Makes zero sense to go through it and not learn from it. Thankful for my loved ones, fam and friends that I can always count on for the support. God is still good through it all. 🙏🏽🎈 #33

The Cedar Grove Saints are one of several DeKalb teams to start the season at 2-0 following a win at Miller Grove earlier this week.

Manny Green had a 25-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead the Cedar Grove Saints (2-0) against the Miller Grove Wolverines (0-2) in the nightcap at Miller Grove on Nov. 14.

Joining Green in double figures for the Saints were Jayden Scott with 13 points and Dontavious Stringfield with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Miller Grove (girls), Tucker (boys), Druid Hills (boys), Arabia Mountain (girls and boys), MLK (boys), Lakeside (boys and girls), Columbia (girls), and other DeKalb teams join the Saints in the ranks of the still undefeated.

High school football season kicked off in DeKalb County on Aug. 17 and Lakeside and Druid Hills picked up their first wins of 2023 following landmark seasons for both squads in 2022.

Lakeside beat Berkmar 24-6 at Adams Stadium while Druid Hills beat KIPP Academy 26-6 at Avondale Stadium. Towers was the only other DeKalb team in action and fell 20-6 against Rutland.

The opening day win comes a few months after Lakeside completed its best season since 2003, but Lakeside head coach Morris Starr said he and his team have already put that in the past.

“It was very important to win, but we had to make sure everyone was aware that what we did last year doesn’t matter this year. It feels good to reminisce but that’s stuff over. No one’s going to lay down because we won some game last year,” said Starr.

Winning every game, or least being competitive in each one, is the goal for this season as the Vikings will not be eligible for the playoffs with a non-region schedule.

“More importantly we want to make sure we try to improve and learn something every game. Do that and you’ll have a good chance to win every game,” added Starr.
