LIVE REPORT: Burn It Down 2026, Torquay

We headed down to one of our favourite festivals of the year, yet also one of the most chaotic, which was only accelerated with the addition of no barrier sets and some of the world's heaviest hardcore bands.

We would like to thank the Burn It Down team for their assistance with a medical emergency within our team, most notably Jodie and Sophie, then also to Joseph and Rob from Circumvent for their care and assistance too. This does mean our Thursday coverage is limited, apologies to all the bands we missed.

The Birmingham metal survey.

Every response & every repost hugely appreciated.

Birmingham metal has had a rollercoaster couple of years: unprecedented highs (Back to the Beginning), existential threats (Digbeth redevelopment) and everything else in between.

It has all left some huge questions. In a world showing a staggering amount of love for the city’s metal heritage, what’s going to happen for the amazing creativity in current small venues? And how can we make sure that the resources poured into celebrating metal’s past genuinely benefit those making, facilitating, and listening to metal right now?

This July was a particularly exciting moment – with Ozzy Day, Children of The Grave’s event at the Museum, and a month of music/talks at venues like The Flapper (thanks to local promoters SYD & PhiltheRoom).

Next July will be at least as big, especially with Ozzfest added to the calendar.

There will be resources put into making Birmingham a metal destination, and it feels hugely important that people in current scenes get to drive the form that takes – to make sure this is a forward-looking celebration of Birmingham metal as well as a memorialisation of its founders.

The council tasked the wonderful Jez Collins (Birmingham Music Archive) and his team with doing the research to investigate what a “Birmingham metal visitor experience” might look like (visitor can mean someone travelling half a mile to the city centre or a suburb as much as someone travelling a thousand). And Jez kindly asked me and Nat Sabbath to put together a survey that we think might help begin the process of making sure nothing that happens does so beyond the reach of Birmingham metalheads and without taking small venues and local bands into account. This, after input from Jez, Patrycja Rozbicka and Lara Ratnraja, is that survey.

The more responses we get the stronger the case we have for proving the passion and vibrancy in a current scene that can’t be ignored. Please do fill it in if you’ve ever been to Birmingham for anything to do with metal or would ever like to sometime in the future. Let’s build the scene we want to see.

Man, it's been a month already! I wanna go back!

As you've probably seen, I have recorded interviews for another episode of Joining Me @ The Festival, my festival spin-off series! This time I was in Torquay, attending this year's edition of Burn It Down Festival!

On top of filming some awesome interviews, you obviously have to check out some music when you're at a festival! And you can tell why these guys have been running this festival for multiple years now - because they know how to put together a stellar lineup! Have attached some of my highlights, plus a mini review for each!

As I covered above, you will have seen a couple of the bands that will be in the episode! But now we have the full lineup reveal! See all the bands I got to chat to in the next 3 slides!

Oh, and while there, look at what else I filmed! Couldn't forget about main show stuff, could I? JMA Ep.6, featuring the return of WREX, will be out this month!

What a wonderful trip this was (was cool to also be there, something I haven't mentioned yet, for my birthday on the festival's last day)! Shoutout to the Burn It Down team for giving me the opportunity to do this, and for putting on such a brilliant festival! You did the 'English Riviera' proud! @burnitdownfestival

Bureau De Change - 'The Gammons Lament' Live @ Burn It Down @bureaudechangeband

Review: Along with my interview w/ them, seeing BDC live was defo the highlight of my birthday! The whole set was brilliant, and a special shoutout to the guitar and bass riffs. Live, they sounded even better than how great they are on the studio versions! Side thing, was hilarious seeing the band mention on stage Connor's plan to 'fight' me, from our intervie
