When I decided to make my first horror feature, MOTHERED, I knew I didn’t have a Hollywood budget. But I also knew I didn’t want to wait years for someone to give me permission to make my movie.

So I worked with what I had.

I wrote a story around locations I could access, painted my entire house burgundy, spent months figuring out how to bring everything to life.

But here’s something I’ve learned through this process: You don’t need to have everything figured out to start. You just need to start figuring it out.

Obsession was absolutely incredible and made HUGE waves for us indie filmmakers.

I’m making my first horror feature film.

We took over a real church for some of the biggest scenes — this is the crew getting it ready.

Follow along, I’m showing you how we did it.

Would you shoot a horror film in a real church?

They said indie horror would look cheap. So we took over a church, summoned a devil, and shot a whole feature. 😈

This is what the set of MOTHERED actually looked like.

Follow @motheredfilm — we’re just getting started.

POV: You filmed a ritual scene so convincing the church needed a factory reset 💀

“Cut!” Okay, now get whatever we summoned out of here. We came to shoot a movie, not bring anything home.

This is the first look behind the scenes. It’s raw. It’s real. And it’s just the beginning.
