📚 NEW FIELD TRIP DATE:
Monday, October 12 — Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Our students have been doing the classroom work. Soon, we’ll take the lesson into the field and put rest into practice.

Until then, class remains in session.

Your assignment: How good are you at changing the plan when your body—or life—is telling you to slow down?

Tell me below. 👇🏾

And save this reminder: Rest is not something we squeeze in after everything else is done. It is part of how we do everything else well.

Thermal circuits are not competitions.

There is no extra credit for staying in the hottest sauna the longest.

No trophy for tolerating the coldest plunge.

And no reason to rush from one experience to the next simply because it’s available.

The sophistication is in understanding the rhythm:

Warm. Heat. Cool. Recover.

And that final step matters.

Recovery is not what happens between the “real” experiences. Recovery is one of the experiences.

That lesson is especially important because this week, The Spa Curriculum is moving beyond theory.

Fieldwork is coming.

📚 Save this sequence as your field guide.

Then tell me: Which step are you most likely to skip—warm-up, cool-down or rest?

🎓 ABCs COMPLETE.

Class dismissed? Not quite.

You don’t need to memorize every spa term to become an informed guest. But you should begin to recognize the major categories that shape spa culture and wellness experiences around the world:

HEAT. WATER. RITUAL. TREATMENT. RECOVERY.

That framework alone makes spa menus, thermal suites, destination spas, and global bathing traditions much easier to understand—and far more intentional to experience.

Consider this your ABCs recap:

HEAT: Sauna • Banya • Laconium
WATER: Onsen • Watsu • Plunge Pool
RITUAL: Hammam • Rasul • Aufguss • Venik
RECOVERY: Quiet Room • Nordic Spa • Thermal Circuit
TREATMENT: Massage • Facial • Exfoliation

The goal was never simply to learn new words. It was to build a vocabulary that helps you make better choices about how you rest, recover, restore, and experience wellness.

And now that we know the language, we’re ready to move beyond the glossary.

NEXT WEEK: THERMAL CIRCUITS.
Heat. Cold. Rest. Repeat. We’re going into the lab.

FINAL ASSIGNMENT: Save this study guide , message @thespacurriculum your answers, then drop your final-exam score out of 6 in the comments. LASTLY .. tag the friend you’re officially enrolling in Spa School with you. 🎓🧖🏾‍♀️

Extra credit: Tell me which term from the ABCs deserves its own full lesson.

Consider this today’s elective.

Part of becoming 🧖🏾‍♀️🧖🏼‍♀️🧖🏿‍♀️ spa-literate is learning that there isn’t one “best” spa experience. The better question is:

What experience serves me today?

Sometimes the assignment is heat. Sometimes water. Sometimes bodywork.

And sometimes the most luxurious thing on the menu is simply Q: Quiet.

CALL TO ACTION:
Check in with yourself and comment your letter: C, H, M, O, Q, S or T.

Today’s lesson proves an important Spa Curriculum principle:

Rest is part of the treatment.

Massage gets plenty of attention, but the quiet room, plunge, soak and recovery period can be just as integral to the spa experience.

Knowing how to use the entire facility—not just your treatment room—is how you begin getting more value from your spa day.

Your assignment: Which letter represents the experience you need most this week? M, N, O, P, Q or R?

Today our curriculum starts traveling—from the hammam to the Korean spa—and introduces different ways cultures have incorporated heat, water, cleansing and community into wellness.

Luxury becomes infinitely more interesting when we understand the ritual behind it.

Your Assignment :
📌 Save today’s lesson and tell me: Hammam, infrared sauna or Korean spa—which one gets your vote?

No skipping class just because it’s Friday.

Our first Spa Curriculum Pop Quiz is here—and yes, this is an open-book class. The goal isn’t memorization. It’s becoming an informed spa-goer who knows what she’s booking, why she’s booking it and how to navigate the experience with confidence.

🎓 Tell me your score: 3/3, 2/3 or “Professor, I need tutoring.” Then send this quiz to your favorite spa classmate.

Class is back in session. 📚✨

Today, we begin building our spa vocabulary six letters at a time.

And here’s your first lesson: spa is not synonymous with massage. Spa culture is an entire language of wellness—water, temperature, skincare, scent, ritual, rest, and bathing traditions that have been practiced across cultures for centuries.

From Aromatherapy and Banya to Contrast Therapy, Dry Brushing, Exfoliation, and Facials, each experience serves a different purpose. The more you understand the language, the more intentional you can become about choosing experiences that actually align with what your body, skin, energy—and mood—need.

Consider this the difference between simply going to the spa and learning how to spa well.

🧖🏽‍♀️🧖🏼‍♀️🧖🏾‍♀️🧖🏻‍♀️Today’s assignment:
Which would you choose right now?

A — Aromatherapy
B — Banya
C — Contrast Therapy
D — Dry Brushing
E — Exfoliation
F — Facial

Drop your letter below and tell us why. 👇🏾

And because good classmates share their notes: save this lesson, tag your spa partner, send this post to someone who could use some rest/recovery and follow @thespacurriculum so you don’t miss G–L.

Your wellness education is officially underway. 🎓♨️

Class is back in session. 📚✨ Today, we’re beginning a new unit: The ABCs of Spa.

Consider today your orientation—an introduction to the language, rituals, treatments, and traditions that shape spa culture around the world.

From Aromatherapy and Banya to Thermal Circuits, Watsu and Zen, this A–Z glossary is your starting point. But we’re not covering the entire curriculum in one day.

Over the next two days, we’ll begin breaking the alphabet down, and next week we’ll continue the lessons, test what you’ve learned, and officially complete our ABCs of Spa unit.

Because The Spa Curriculum isn’t about simply knowing where to book a massage. It’s about becoming a more informed wellness consumer—understanding what you’re experiencing, why certain rituals exist, and which practices may deserve a place in your own wellness routine.

And this month, I want you to do more than scroll.

Your assignment: commit to learning at least one new thing from this series—and then put one thing into practice before the month is over.

Try a ritual you’ve never experienced. Explore a new type of spa. Build intentional rest into your calendar. Ask better questions before your next treatment. The goal is simple: learn something, then live it.

📌 Save this A–Z glossary—you’ll need it for class.
🤎 Follow @thespacurriculum so you don’t miss Thursday and Friday’s lessons.
↗️ Share this with your favorite spa classmate.
💬 Comment: Which term on today’s glossary is completely new to you?

Wednesday’s lesson starts now. By next week, we’re going to know our ABCs. ✨

Welcome to Day 2 of The Spa Curriculum: Back-to-School Edition.
Consider this your foundation course in the art, science, and culture of spa.

Today’s lesson: What is a spa?
A spa is not simply a destination for massages. It is a carefully curated wellness environment designed to restore the body, quiet the mind, and support overall well-being through therapeutic treatments, water, heat, touch, skincare, movement, and ritual.

Across cultures and centuries, spa traditions have served as spaces for restoration, ceremony, community, and healing. From hydrotherapy and thermal circuits to body treatments, saunas, bathing rituals, and advanced wellness therapies, the modern spa experience sits at the intersection of science, tradition, luxury, and intentional rest.

And that is exactly where this curriculum is headed.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll decode the language, rituals, etiquette, destinations, and treatments that define exceptional spa experiences — so you can move through the wellness world with more knowledge, confidence, and discernment.

Today’s assignment:
What does spa mean to you — escape, restoration, ritual, wellness… or all of the above?

Then take it one step further: name the one spa experience you believe belongs on everyone’s wellness syllabus at least once.

Save this post for your notes. Share it with your favorite spa classmate. Add your answer in the comments. And follow @thespacurriculum so you don’t miss the next lesson.

Enrollment is open. Your luxury wellness education has officially begun. 🎓✨
