thank u to everyone who showed up and showed out for me. ive felt the love this year around in many ways from all of u and i appreciate being surrounded by years of love bonding trust and REAL friendship! it’s really a blessing i can’t put into words. shoutout to my day ones, fresh faces, and everything in between. i love yall. special shoutout to my baby @rahkimsevon who quite literally snagged me at the club with his first words being “happy birthday” happy to be spending another one with u😘. reflecting back i went thru A LOT of struggles in my 20s. but in the end it all worked out and that’s thanks to the community around me. yall mean so much to me! so cheers to a new chapter and more to come🤍

Transparency post: The past year beat my ASS😅

April 2025 I hosted my most successful Mecca’s Table event. I was able to hire vendors, rent space, and invest more in my business. I couldn’t wait to start planning the next one. The next month I got laid off. And I was laid off for 14 months. In that time I pivoted from hosting events and started hustling. Catering any event I could. Meal prepping for my friends and anyone that was willing to take a chance on me. Hosting Sunday dinners and asking for donations. I acquired my LLC. I got my ServSafe food manager license. I refused to quit…even though I really wanted to. The sleepless nights. The empty bank account. The endless tears. It’s brought me here.

Not only did I secure a job, but I was able to host my first event since my hiatus. A girl dinner. I gathered a few ladies from my community that have poured into me, inspired me, or encouraged me during this season. Mecca’s Table is about bringing people together, forming community through food, and creating safe spaces for people to be themselves. I am so thankful I’m in a position to continue making my dreams come true. Delayed, but never denied. I keep saying it…but this is really only the beginning🥂

“NEVER ASK PERMISSION FOR SOMETHING THAT ALREADY BELONGS TO YOU”

This 4th of July, surrounded by friends and chosen family (yes, even Beyoncé! 😂), felt like a profound act of liberation.

It was a powerful reminder that in my Blackness and my Queerness, I am unequivocally American. I too, am America. Even when this country feels unrecognizable, even when its values don’t align with mine, it remains OURS. So, where do we go from here? What does one do with that realization?

As I seek to answer that question for myself, it’s clear to me: community. This next chapter is dedicated to intentionally building and nurturing spaces of love and connection. Because it’s in these moments of fellowship, and twerking to Beyoncé, that I find the joy, inspiration, and strength to push forward.

Community and love are the antidotes we need most.

Here’s to showing up, together, and figuring out how to do good and bring joy to a world that desperately needs it.
