WHAT IF YOUR IMAGINATION BECAME YOUR NEXT COMIC BOOK?

Charlotte, it’s time to bring those ideas to life!

Introducing DOMORR DESIGN DOJO, a hands-on creative workshop where young artists, aspiring storytellers, and comic book lovers learn to turn their imagination into something REAL.

Comics were one of my first teachers. They helped me explore reading, storytelling, visual communication, and the relationship between words and images. Now, I’m bringing that same creative energy to the next generation.

This isn’t just about drawing. It’s about learning how to CREATE, THINK, and TELL YOUR STORY.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

* Character Creation: Design your own original hero.
* Storytelling: Develop ideas and build a compelling story.
* Illustration: Explore the fundamentals of drawing and visual expression.
* Comic Book Design: Learn about panels, page layout, and lettering.
* Creative Thinking: Start turning your imagination into your own comic book concept.

NO DRAWING EXPERIENCE? NO PROBLEM!
Whether you’re a beginner or already sketching your next superhero, there’s room for you at the Dojo.

This past June at HeroesCon in Charlotte, NC I was truly honored to be interviewed by my great friend @thetomheintjes, Editor of Hogan’s Alley, the Magazine of the Cartoon Arts. This panel was titled “25 Bodacious Years With Barney Google And Snuffy Smith” and focused on my 25 years (so far!) as the cartoonist of this comic strip! Working on this comic strip continues to be the greatest joy of my professional career. Thank you to everyone at King Features, @comicskingdom and @heroesonline! And a special thank you, as well, to Tom Heintjes for leading the panel and Matt Barnett for filming it! You can view the video on the wonderful “Sean The Archivist” YouTube Channel!

In 2018 our story began. We had an opportunity to rent an arena I wanted to host what I felt was a true comic show. Not one of these cookie cutter cons but a true comic show! One that I remember going to when I was a kid.

We took a stand:
No VOICE ACTORS (I never understood that, I mean, so this person sounds like the voice from a cartoon character you used to watch? I’m all set)

No COSPLAY CONTEST- I go to shows for comic books, to buy art and to meet artists that work on actual comics. Not to have 100 Deadpool’s pose for a photo op.

Speaking of Photo Ops - we refuse to have any actors, or sitcom stars. I don’t care if you played Spider-Man on TV or the 5th zombie in the back. Not interested in expensive photo ops nor do I want your autograph on my comic.

What we do have is the finest line up of comic vendors outside of Heroes anywhere in the northeast! Vendors like James Payette (we are the only show he does!), @reecesrarecomics @tomorrowstreasures.comics @themanbehindtheredhood @streyflexin @harleyyeerarecomics @terrys_comics @heritagecomics @basementcomics @superworld_comics to name just a few!
Not to mention legends like JIM STERANKO, David Michelinie, Al Milgrom, Mike Royer, Dan Jurgens, Tom DeFalco, Mike Manley, Keith Williams and more!!! (Yes we capitalized STERANKO, he’s earned it 🙌)

And, @cgccomics & @cgcsignatureseries will be on site! Not a facilitator, CGC themselves 🧡

2027 will be our 10th year, apparently we’ve resonated with true comic collectors and for that we are grateful. I never knew there were as many folks like me who don’t care for all that other stuff and just go to shows for comics and art.

We’ve fought to stay small. We love the intimacy our show provided. Vendors spaces are sold out years in advance, we are over 100 people on a waiting list for a spot. We’ve turned down offers to triple or even quadruple our size. We like it this way. We hope you do too!
