Three of our five readers from last week’s Hawaiian Punch Spoonbill Live Read give their recommendations of classic and contemporary literature. These slushy readings have been so fab but we’re sensing a chill in the air and the resulting necessity of a new temperature of beverage for these coming months… Cris Garcia recommends Carver’s What We Talk When We Talk about Love, Matthew Goldin’s Matthew and Joyce’s Dubliners Eero Talo recommends Tales of White Back by Bill Moran Victor Florence recommends Proust’s in Search of Lost Time

coming soon from @hessepress: my debut book of poetry ‘tv & treadmill: poems toward living alone’—you can preorder it at asterism right now. link is in my bio. here’s what asterism has to say about it: TV & Treadmill is a poetic chronicle of post-cohabitation, a roughly six-month project capturing the mundane terror-hum of a writer living alone for the first time in many years. When one of poet Z.H. Gill’s oldest friends loaned him a treadmill “indefinitely,” his evenings spent jogging in front of the television—before ghost-hunting reality programs, Shark Tank, and Rossellini films—became a despondent writing practice which grew into a productive fixation and, eventually, a balm. Through forms found and invented, Gill ecstatically plunders culture high and low in TV & Treadmill—from Ted Berrigan, Marguerite Duras, and Elaine May to Zak Bagans, Lisa Vanderpump, and Paul Westerberg—to fend off the soft horror of solitude and find a new way of living. go buy my book or i will cut you out of my life.

“Alter’s poems resemble amorphous deep-sea creatures: they expand, contract, taper, or sprawl toward whatever pressure their particular environment demands of them.” To accompany Eva Alter’s (@eva.alter.poet) poems in The Bulb Region, make sure to read our review of “Sea-oath” today.
