The meanders of collaboration and ownership surrounding Swiss watch brands during the late Quartz Crisis are complex and fascinating 😅. In 1981, Piaget ‘acquired’ Lemania, which subsequently became Nouvelle Lemania. In June 1982, a Piaget-led consortium acquired Heuer, bringing the two companies under common ownership. In 1985, Techniques d’Avant Garde (TAG) acquired a majority stake in Heuer from the Piaget/Nouvelle Lemania group, creating what would become TAG Heuer.
This brief period of overlapping ownership, from 1982 to 1985, produced some particularly intriguing and unusual watches. Among them are Lemania-branded quartz prototypes for Heuer and early TAG-Heuer models.

1960s Brichot Carrera by Heuer-Leonidas

A NOS condition export label chronograph produced by Heuer-Leonidas for the US market. As we know, to circumvent the taxes on Swiss watches from 1954-67, many brands exported watches to USA under a different name, as was the case here and with the better known Clebar chronographs.

Inside beats a Landeron 248 stamped Heuer-Leonidas S.A. after their merger in 1964 when they still co-branded watches for a period of time.

Beautiful reverse panda dial, flat pushers, recessed sub-dials, big sword hands, long indices and brown patina lume, big dome crystal. This is peak 1960s racing chrono and Carrera vibes. The dial and hands were common with Heuer, whereas the case and pushers were common with Leonidas, so it’s an interesting marriage of the two styles.

I believe @wa696ou had the exact same watch but in gold!

In the mid 1960’s it was all about racing! The smell of fuel and oil soaked rags filled the Pits……Famous drivers like Jochen Rindt wore this 3 reg Autavia…..screw back with 12 hour bezel. 5 years later Heuer released a GMT version of the Autavia…..marketed to those that flew and travelled.

I’ve been looking for this for a while. 🤩 HEUER dial, clasp & pusher. 💙
The 3000 Series traces its origins back to the final years of the Heuer watch company. It made its debut in the 1984 catalogue—just a year before Heuer was acquired by Techniques d’Avant Garde (TAG) in 1985. As a result, this particular HEUER-branded variation was produced for only a brief window, between 1984 and 1985. Rare piece I would say 🤩
