This is a man who's parts are made up of plants.
Also known as a foliate mask, woodwose, verdant figure, jack-in-the-green, and occasionally a disgorging head when vines are sprouting out of the mouth nose ears or eyes.
It's an image that has many beliefs and mixed origins, some say a pre Christian fertility god, some say an early depiction of Neptune, Pan or Dionysus.
What is known for sure is that there are thousands upon thousands of artistic and architectural renditions that have been recreated throughout history mostly in Europe and Asia.
Whatever the origins may have been, the image is an irrefutably strong one that has picked up many meanings through time.
It's an image that Is close to my heart.
This one is on my friend @poorboyricky and was made at @warhorsetattoo
And just for fun there's a video a cat playing fetch.

From a young age, I grew up hearing the legends of Clan Keith, Dickson, and Douglas from my grandparents. They kept a small library including books and clippings with stories of the Camus Slayer, the Border Reivers, Thomas Dickson, Sir William de Keith, and the Good Sir James, known as the Black Douglas.

Those stories sparked an interest in family heritage and Scottish history in general, leading me down a path that eventually brought me to Scotland earlier this year.

This painting brings together several symbols of that heritage: Dunnottar Castle, the Keith tartan, the clan motto "Truth Conquers,” and the white rose.

Following the painting is a video I took at Dunnotar castle along with some 35mm film shots I took on our trip.
