One of the longest lockdowns in the world produced this experimental collaboration between Alison Ferrier and Jeff Lang. High Ace was born in 2021.

It’s @high_ace_band time again for @jefflangmusic and myself! We’ll be playing songs from our album Snowcap Menace, as well as songs from each of our catalogs. @victorianagaye will be playing their gorgeous mix of 60s-style pop and rock and we can’t bloody wait to see them! Ticket links for both these shows are in my bio 😊

High Ace (artist bio below) - Free show at The Cosmopolitan Hotel, Trentham on Good Friday 18th April, 7:30pm - 9:30pm. No bookings required, reservations for a pre-show dinner are welcomed via our website.

London-born and raised singer/songwriter/guitarist/violinist Alison Ferrier has released three solo albums and most recently has been touring and releasing music with the highly regarded Opelousas alongside Kerri Simpson and Anthony Shortte. Their debut album ‘Opelousified’ won Music Victoria’s Best Blues Album of the Year.

Acclaimed guitarist, singer songwriter Jeff Lang has won three ARIAs, collaborated with countless artists including Malian Kora virtuoso Mamadou Diabate and Tabla maestro Bobby Singh in Djan Djan. He’s toured the UK, US and Europe multiple times and played extensively in Asia, including appearances in major festivals in Japan, China and India. In 2021, Jeff published his first book – “Some Memories Never Die” – a fascinating and funny memoir of his life on the road.

Together, the wife and husband team have created a fascinating new musical project they’ve called High Ace and have now delivered a fabulous debut album, Snowcap Menace.

Born out of the spare time provided by Melbourne’s extended lockdown period, the genesis of the High Ace album material was a ‘reverse’ function video app that their kids were playing around with. Ali and Jeff found the sonic results of their app play to be intriguing. As a result, they discovered a unique and magical song-writing method: deciphering strange incantations played in reverse, and following what the unusual, twisting cadences of those vocalisations were telling them.

Jeff and I were nominated for a @musicvictoria award for our High Ace album ‘Snowcap Menace’ and we had an excellent time at the ceremony last night. Congratulations to the excellent @checkerboardlounge, who won in our category, and to all the other winners and nominees! Here we are after finding out we were losers (well, we already knew that 😁), but I feel like a winner here because I got to meet the amazing Gareth Liddiard (🤩🤩🤩) who is extremely nice, as well as a phenomenal musician, and he very kindly took these photos for us. Plus, the booze was free for a while, so I was pretty bloody happy 😆 #highaceband #jefflang #alisonferrier #musicvictoriaawards

(Coming towards the) End of an era.

Last few weeks of in-stores before the beloved Basement Discs @basement_discs store closes in the new year after nearly three decades in (and under) Block Place - although the business will continue online. (I think I got that right, happy to be corrected.)

And there will still be a live music connection as Suzanne and Rod plan to work with small venues to host shows.

On soon

A very special evening of music as High Ace, the new musical project of Jeff Lang and Alison Ferrier, showcase their debut album 'Snowcap Menace'. The album is of contemporary musical storytelling, empowered by a foundation of guitar-led folk and stringed global ethno-influences, exploring the collective musical powers of Alison and Jeff, yet still offering their individual flairs to flourish. As an added bonus, Amy Valent Curlis will be on marimba and percussion. A MUST SEE SHOW!
