i was blessed to be visited by the migrating vultures last night and this morning. Vultures don’t generally evoke affection or admiration, but they are the most graceful and interesting flyers, and the sound of their wings in the air just overhead is a real thrill. Apparently my sculptures and Simi Dabah’s make good roosting spots. @hwy62arttours starts this coming weekend. The vultures should be in Arizona by then.

JOSHUA TREE SHAKESPEARE COMPANY & THEATRE 29 CAST “ROMEO & JULIET”

Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers are heading for the Mojave in a bold new take on the world’s most famous romance!

Joshua Tree Shakespeare Company (JTSC), in co-production with Theatre 29, is thrilled to announce the cast of William Shakespeare’s “ROMEO & JULIET.”
🌵 A Shakespeare classic—with a Mojave twist! The setting has been reimagined in the modern Hi-Desert, while Shakespeare’s original language remains intact. Verona becomes the Mojave: an old feud still burns, everyone knows everyone’s business, and falling in love can be just as dangerous as it was 400 years ago.
And this Romeo and Juliet aren’t teenagers—they’re two people who knew each other long ago, meeting again later in life and discovering that sometimes you really can fall in love for the first time… again.

🌹The Cast
Andrew Catlin — Romeo Montague
Bobbie Breckenridge — Juliet Capulet
Erika Corcoran — Mercutio
Heather Clisby — Nurse
Anna LaCazio — Lawrence
Travis Land — Benvolio
Booker Harrap — Tybalt
Paco Diaz — Mr. Capulet
Natalie Raymond — Lady Capulet

Also featuring Lisa Diaz, Jack Woertz, Kevin Hayles,Eva Trimarchi, Laren Wolpert, Jessica Miller, David Diaz, Brian Hennessy, Grant Crochet, Cam Gutierrez, Mia Gonzalez, and Rich Zepeda.

🎬 Reimagined & Directed by Liz Wessel, founding board member of JTSC. The production is part of JTSC’s mission to make Shakespeare immediate, accessible and unmistakably at home in the desert—honoring the original language while finding new ways to tell these 400-year-old stories to a modern Hi-Desert audience.

Because the names may be Montague and Capulet. The place may be Verona. But this feud? It could happen here.

People say, “It’s just a bar. Get over it.”

No.

It wasn’t “just” a bar.

It was the best bar in the desert.

Something is being passed down right now.

Not through a lineage you have to earn your way into ~ but through sound, through presence, through showing up, just as you are, on a Sunday afternoon in this vast desert ~ and letting something ancient move through you.

Second Sundays Gathering at Studio 29 is our first of these Sunday offerings and we'd love for you and yours to be there.

This is not a yoga class. There's no sequence, no instruction, no fee or membership required. This is a community coming together ~ for droopad, Indian classical throat yoga, bansuri flute, chanting, shared sacred texts ~ practices that have been passed from person to person for thousands of years. You, we, are the living continuation of that.

We'll gather at noon for sangha, then share a meal and celebratory hang out from 1–3.

Like the practices themselves ~ shared only with the goal of collective liberation for thousands of years ~ this gathering is offered freely to all who feel drawn.

July 12 · Studio 29 · Twentynine Palms ~ noon to three.

Together 🙏🏼

Come as you are 🌱
