Welcome to A New Ease #StoriesofPlace

After decades in New York, our clients chose to begin again in Sydney, bringing their whole family with them. What they were really creating wasn’t just a home, but a place to gather and to spend time differently. Long lunches, summer evenings by the bay, doors left open to the garden.

A different pace settles in here. Moving from the vertical intensity of Manhattan to something more expansive and seasonal. Sea air drifting through the house, jacarandas blooming in violet bursts, birds moving through the trees. The house follows that easy rhythm.

Inside, it’s the materials that hold the emotion. Each marble was chosen for its individuality, moments of colour and depth that feel almost like jewellery placed throughout the home. A sculptural basin, green quartzite island pillars, pieces you notice instinctively.

There are quieter layers too. Lighting that is a subtle nod to their time in New York, glass and lacquer picking up and reflecting sunlight as it moves throughout the day. Nothing feels overstated, everything is considered.

More than anything, A New Ease marks a new chapter. One shaped by family, by place, and by a different way of living.

I would have loved a bathroom like this as a kid. A beautiful soft palette and playful little details like the flower wall light and curved mirror and window.

It's wild to think how much our approach to bathrooms has changed. What’s always been a highly practical room is now something we put so much more thought into, and so many of our bathrooms are now a place to express a bit of personality, and somewhere we actually enjoy being in every day. I’m here for it!

At the same time - so many people tell me they feel completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of decisions to make for a bathroom, and just how many options there are.

If you’re after a bit of guidance to help you design a bathroom you’ll genuinely enjoy using every day, my One-Off Virtual Consultation is designed for exactly that — a one-hour session where we workshop it together in real time. Link in bio to book.

Materiality is not about the surface alone.
It lives in the meeting points.
Where stone softens into timber, where shadow edges a wall, where one space yields to the next.

We design with close attention to junctions and thresholds. The moments where materials touch, align, retreat or overlap. These decisions shape how a space is read and how it is felt.

In “A New Ease,” material decisions extend to the smallest intersections, the points that quietly give the whole its coherence.

Behind the scenes at our latest shoot for project “A New Ease” - a day alive with movement, sun, birdsong and the creative hum we love.

Shots composed by the centimetre, light chased by the second, the day carried by coffees, conversation and the gentle choreography of shaping space.

A big thank you to @dave_wheeler @olgalewisstyling and the team for bringing it all together so wonderfully on the day ✨
