44 years young in a few weeks🫣,and incredibly grateful to still be healthy enough to test myself on the competition mats. Highland born and raised, it’s a huge honour to represent my team while wearing our family crest and club logo. Last week I won some, lost some, and learned a lot. Now the real reward is passing those lessons on — sharing competition-proven techniques and experiences with my team. I’ve got a definite love/hate relationship with competition 😂 but I’ve competed at every belt level, on both sides of the Atlantic, and I hope to keep doing it for as long as my health allows. I never expect my team to compete. Everyone has their own goals, and there’s absolutely no pressure to step onto that particular stage. But I would never ask anyone to do something I’m not willing to do myself. Lead from the front. Always. We may step onto the competition mats as individuals, but nobody gets there alone. The preparation is a team effort, and I’m incredibly grateful to every single member of Highland Top Team who helped me prepare for last week’s comp. Every round, every bit of advice, every tough session — it all played a part. A special thank you to my two main training partners, Logan and Stephane, for putting me through my paces. And a huge thank you to my PT, Dylan Brunton, for getting this battered old body working again and helping me get into the best shape of my life! 😂💪 Thanks also to all my opponents, and to Elite BJJ Events for putting on what I genuinely believe is one of the best-run competitions out there. And finally… if you fancy trying something new, learning some JiuJitsu and maybe discovering that you’re capable of more than you thought — our next Beginners Course starts October 6th. You don’t have to compete. You don’t have to be fit. You don’t have to know anything about JiuJitsu. Just come along and give it a go. Highland Top Team. One team. One community. One journey. 🤙❤️✌️ #bjjhighlands #bjjscotland #jiujitsufamily

You win some and you lose some. Lost to the judge’s decision, no complaints and well done @sx0phbjj (good luck in Poland at ADCC🤞). No doubt our paths will cross again in the future at some point as it’s sitting at 2-2 🥵. Would I have loved to win ? Of course, I would have. Am I disappointed ? Not really. You don’t learn anything about yourself taking the easy matches, that’s why I am willing to move up age and weights to get XP (giving up 3 years and a lot of kgs). Will I lose again ? 100% I will, but it’s how you carry yourself and pick yourself up after defeat that matters the most. Thanks to everyone at @highlandtopteam , @jteargas and my friends for the support. Thanks, @youngsubsofficial for having me on the show again (11/11 to date) and @hardlifebjj for the fight and training gear. We move on to the next one. #LetsGo
