What does directing/shooting BTS for Taika Waititi and a V8 Supercar team truck have in common?

Before commercials, before treatments and pitch decks, I fell in love with documentary storytelling.
I wasn’t manufacturing moments, I was immersed in a room full of talented people creating them. The challenge was to quietly observe, recognise the magic as it happens and shape it into a story of its own.

We created a world of content from short-form to long-form to meaningfully show the craft, characters and energy on set.

So, although directing/shooting BTS for this Taika Waititi commercial is a huge career milestone for me, it also is a bit of a throw back; reminding me of where it all began.. in the back of the Icebreak V8 supercar teams truck, pointing a camera in their face and observing that crew of talented people make big magic together 🏎️ 🏁

🎬 THE FILMS:

MAGID/ZAFAR directed by @luishindman
Luís Hindman's BIFA-winning, BAFTA-nominated short film is a propulsive journey through the world of a British Pakistani takeaway as tensions rise with the heat of the stove

BUTCH directed by @thejordanrossi100
Through intimate portraits, candid moments, and heartfelt interviews, “BUTCH”, seeks to redefine and expand the understanding of masculinity.

JELLYFISH directed by @jessemayfisher
A woman is consumed by fantasies of impregnating her girlfriend.

WAITING LIST directed by @pbrooks501
The wait to see a gender specialist can be up to 7 years. In that time, tens of thousands of people are being denied the opportunity to live their lives authentically. It’s time to end the wait.

FOR LOVE directed by @joygharoro
Against all odds, two women try to resist being torn apart by the UK's brutal immigration system.

SOFT BWOI directed by @itsdannybwoi
Soundsystem culture injects this triumphant short with a rallying cry, calling on all Black boys and men who have been labelled “soft” to Wake Up!

BATH BOMB directed by @colingcooper
Bath Bomb is a twisted comedic horror short that takes a uniquely Queer approach to the cinematic subgenre known as Giallo. It offers calculated visual flair, sudden bursts of delicious violence, a dollop of sexy man-flesh, and a judicious amount of campy humour.
