![🥹Stunning, 76-acre nature sanctuary that takes you on a visual journey from an arid, sun-baked savanna down into a lush, subtropical canyon.
🌊 The Waterfall, Grotto, & Cave:
The crown jewel of the hike is the canyon head, where a breathtaking 40-foot waterfall flows over a limestone cliff. This waterfall continuously replenishes a brilliant, emerald-green grotto pool below. The unique microclimate keeps the canyon floor significantly cooler than the upper savanna. The guided tour safely leads visitors behind the veil of the waterfall and directly into a pristine, one-room limestone cave filled with delicate geological formations.
📍 Location
The preserve is located in Southwest Travis County at 24814 Hamilton Pool Rd, Round Mountain, TX 78663. It sits just a few minutes past the famous Hamilton Pool Preserve and is roughly a 45-minute drive west of downtown Austin.
Because Westcave is a highly protected conservation area, you cannot explore the canyon on your own. You need to make reservations for a guided tour.
Have you been here before? If not, save it for your next Texas adventure! 🥾💦⛰️
While the canyon maintains a beautiful, cool sanctuary atmosphere year-round, the absolute best times to visit are Spring (March to May) and Fall (October to November).
🥾 Hiking Trail & Elevation
Access to the canyon is strictly permitted via guided tours only to protect the fragile ecosystem.
Trail Length: The Guided Canyon Tour is a 1-mile round-trip hike.
Elevation Change: You will descend 100 feet change in elevation from the savanna down into the canyon floor.
Difficulty: The trail is rated moderate to difficult. The main challenge is a long, winding, and uneven limestone staircase built directly into the canyon slope. Once you are on the canyon floor, you will navigate wet rocks, exposed tree roots, and steps. Sturdy hiking shoes are highly recommended, and strollers are not allowed.

![💦⛰️🩱100/10 spot…
Tucked away like a secret world, this is the ultimate Texas Hill Country oasis. ✨
There is nothing quite like the feeling of stepping into this sunken limestone grotto and watching a 50-foot waterfall spill into the emerald-green water. It is the perfect spot to slow down, listen to the trickling water, and completely reset.
🌿 The Details For Your Next Trip:
• Location: Dripping Springs, Texas (just about 30 miles west of Austin).
• The Trail: It’s a short but rugged 0.25-mile hike down to the pool from the parking lot (about 0.5 miles round-trip), though you can extend your trek to nearly 1.8 miles if you explore the trail leading all the way to the Pedernales River!
• Fun Fact: This stunning canyon wasn’t just carved out—it was actually formed thousands of years ago when the dome of a massive underground river collapsed due to water erosion!
🎒 Note: Because this ecosystem is so highly protected, reservations are required to enter, and swimming permissions can change daily based on water levels and safety. But honestly, just sitting on the beach and taking in the views is pure magic.
Save this for your Texas bucket list! And follow for more!
