List of Angels is 42 minutes of new music from Today’s Favorite Singers, which is a group of around 11 people living around the world. At the nucleus of this practice is a strong partnership between myself and Carl Schrecongost.

TF Singers was born about a year ago when we started work on Seeking Christmas, a 19 track mixtape of original holiday themed music. I have adopted a “character” for this work, an older person, who is perhaps inspired by Leonard Cohen or Iggy Pop. Other artists have mentioned that when a singer takes a character they become that character. I think it's probably true in the case of List of Angels. I was in a good mood when we wrote the music, in fact we sat down to make something like a disco record that would be some opulent feel good kind of thing. What we ended up with was a series of works that addressed legacy, loneliness, living & dying in a distinctly new New York City. Since we’ve finished the record, I have dealt with precisely these issues personally, in what would become probably the worst year of my life.

It's funny how these things work out. The thing about Singers as a practice is that all lyrics are improvised. We spend a lot of time on the arrangements but the original vocal always stays. It is often truncated as some of this flow state stuff is actually just boring, but I feel that I am opening up a path in myself to speak something like the truth.

I think it's important to say that this record is not a tribute to Jaimie Branch, as I feel there are many eerie moments on here that may seem to reference. I can tell you that I would not be making any music at all if not for the love of breezy, and I hope to carry her spirit with me to the best of my ability.

Anyway List of Angels will be everywhere Dec 1.
