DC Startup & Tech Week (Formerly DC Startup Week) Day 3: Choosing the Right Rooms.

One of the hardest parts of attending an event like DC Tech Week isn’t figuring out what to attend. It’s figuring out what not to attend.

With so many events, speakers, and people to meet, FOMO is real 🫠 You know you’re going to miss something because you simply can’t be everywhere. And when you’re still building your network and getting to know the ecosystem, choosing which rooms to walk into can feel like a guessing game.

Do you choose the room where you’ll learn something new?

The room where you might meet someone who could open a door or create a business opportunity?

Or the room where you can show up and support people and relationships you’re already building?

Ideally, you find rooms that offer all three.

But you can’t predict what every room will bring, and there’s another factor that’s easy to underestimate: your energy.

Every event takes time, effort, and sometimes a considerable amount of travel. Balancing that investment with the potential value isn’t always easy. Be intentional about where you spend your time, recognize that you can’t do it all, and accept that sometimes you won’t know which room was the right one until afterward.

For me, yesterday was about supporting the community in the place I now call home. Reconnecting with familiar faces, meeting new ones and having conversations about bridging the gap between Baltimore and DC, including a great discussion about the beauty, strengths, and unique character Baltimore brings to the DMV.

And with that, I’m wrapping up my DC Tech Week experience!

Today, I’m investing my time at the Maryland Innovation Center, where I’ll be introduced as one of their mentors 🥳 I AM SO EXCITED to support the founders and dig in.

And tomorrow, I’m choosing to slow down, recharge, and catch up on all the work I didn’t get done this week so I’m ready for the next!

A huge thank you to everyone who made DC Startup & Tech Week possible. What an incredible opportunity to bring people together, share ideas, build relationships, and strengthen the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

📲 Phones were out, contacts were being saved, and conversations gave us plenty to follow up on at our exclusive #dcstw26 speaker sponsor partner happy hour! 🍸

The community said it best: “People weren’t just swapping business cards; they were genuinely showing up for each other.” Another attendee described DCSTW as “a massive ecosystem that actively supports each other’s growth.”

Thank you to our host sponsor, @versusequity, for the incredible rooftop views and Capitol Hill vibes that set the scene for a fantastic evening!

That’s the energy we’re bringing into a week of learning, pitches, and opportunities to find capital, customers, and resources.

✨ SHARE YOUR LIGHT | NOLA BALTIMORE
Today, we're shining a light on @hillbirdtoe . 💡
We caught up with Gilberto at Tech in the Hut #3, MedTech & Healthcare night at NOLA Seafood & Spirits, to ask one simple question:
How do you share your light?
Baltimore's tech community is full of people building something for this city, and nights like this put them in the same room. 🩺⚙️
This is Share Your Light, an @illuminatebaltimore series powered by Majestic Light.
✨ Baltimore shines brighter when we share our light.

Tech in the Hut #3 last night, MedTech & Healthcare edition 🎬

Packed room at NOLA and conversations that kept going long after the mic went down. Venture for T.H.E.M., Baltimore Tech Meetup, and Tech & Culture Lab all came through, and the current Techstars cohort made an appearance too. You could watch Baltimore's tech community get a little more connected with every handshake 🩺⚙️

Big thank you to Julian Coy for helping shape the theme of this one. The MedTech focus brought the right people into the room 🙏🏾

Daniel Kai keeps leading this charge, and the city keeps showing up for it. Two weeks until the next one and we're already ready 🔥
