Solo Bikepacking Across Iceland 🇮🇸🚴‍♂️

With a €140 bike that I bought on Facebook Marketplace, I set out on a mission: to cycle around Iceland.

What followed became the most extraordinary adventure I have ever experienced….and perhaps the most meaningful.

Iceland tested me every day. Powerful winds, rapidly changing weather, cold rain, long stretches without services, and relentless climbs and descents turned even the simplest day into a challenge. With limited equipment and little comfort, there were moments when riding into the vast Icelandic wilderness felt almost like surrendering myself to the forces of nature.

As if that were not enough, time was another constant opponent. My goal was to complete the journey in 14 days and arrive at Bergmál Festival, where this adventure was meant to end. The pressure of the deadline added a permanent sense of uncertainty: would I make it in time?

To overcome these challenges, I chose courage over doubt, discipline over discomfort, and focus over distraction. Careful planning and clear priorities helped me find a balance between enjoying the journey, avoiding unnecessary haste, and making steady progress toward Þingvellir and my final destination.

This journey taught me far more than I expected. It was not only about cycling across Iceland….it was about resilience, adaptation, and trust in myself when faced with uncertainty.

There are still many stories left to tell…

When you don’t have time to warm up… 👀Caught Freya fingering along while someone else played the same piece. Instant warm-up mode activated. @himafestival

We had such a magical time at Harpa International Music Academy in Iceland last month. @himafestival 🇮🇸🎶

This was definitely the coldest — and the coolest — summer we’ve ever had! Some days during rehearsals, we had to wrap up in blankets to stay warm. ❄️

But one of the biggest highlights? Freya had the incredible opportunity to perform at Harpa, Reykjavík’s world-class concert hall — a stunning glass structure right on the water. I still remember sitting in the audience last year, watching a concert there, and quietly thinking to myself, “What if one day Freya could play here too?” And here we are — wish come true. 💫

Maybe it’s the magic of Iceland, but the people we met had the most peaceful, chill, and welcoming energy. Coming from a big, fast-paced city, it felt like a rare breath of calm. We reunited with old friends, made new ones (even a few local families!), and shared beautiful moments together — both during and after the festival.

We’re so thankful to the amazing teachers who guided, inspired, and supported Freya throughout the week. Your generosity and encouragement meant the world to us. @sibbibernhardsson @ariviolin @sigurgeira @daniellevitov @helgasteinunntorfa @thordis_emilia

So grateful for the music, the friendships, and the endless Icelandic skies that brought everything together. 🌌💛

I enjoyed performing Prokofiev’s String Quartet No. 1, 2nd movement, as part of the HIMA Festival. It was a pleasure to collaborate with my dear friends and colleagues Audrey Goodner (violin @curtisinstitute ,Jasper Sewell (violin, @shepherd_school ), and Holly Bagel (viola, @oberlincon ). ✨

Many thanks to our professor Sibbi Bernhardsson for his guidance and to the HIMA Festival for the opportunity to share this music. #festival #chambermusic #concert #curtis #oberlin #shepherd #hima

A short glimpse from the final concert of the @himafestival at the radiant Harpa Hall. ✨

Performing Brahms’ String Quintet No.2 in G major, Op.111 with my dear friends and colleagues — @audrey.g.goodner , @iampetridis_official , @viviennelucier , and @abbeybenzz — was a truly wonderful experience. I cherished every moment we shared on that stage.

Warmest thanks to the HIMA Festival, to its inspiring director Sibbi Bernhardsson, and to our wonderful professor Þórunn Ósk Marínósdóttir @thorunnoskmarinosdottir for making this incredible journey possible. 🎶
