THE BODY IN SPACE : Tonight we hosted my dear friend, artist @alexcavellbatkin and dancer @ben_green for Ben’s improvisational performance, UNTITLED (“needle solo”). The ever-changing art piece involves paper thin metal needles - Alex is also an accomplished acupuncturist and student of Traditional Chinese Medicine - and juxtaposes the human form in motion with pain, freedom and restriction. It sounds brutal but is in fact a tender metaphor for care, for self attention, for necessary presence, for a dialogue with ones own limbs. I’m elated to have hosted its first run inside our metal tent tonight. We perforated the room with “windows” so one might see INTO the room, not just sit inside it. The soft body in a relentless geometry of steel reminds me of all the tensions I seek : soft / hard, light / heavy, dark / light, wild / ordered. Thank you to them both for the privilege of attending. As always, merci @thelast.agency and @usmmodularfurniture for your support. Tonight felt like the New York I came to in the late 90s - untethered, spontaneous, full of interesting people and endless possibility.
