Vintage Small Plate – Ki-Seto, Japanese Pottery A Japanese vintage Ki-Seto small plate, believed to date from the Edo period. The pale yellowish-white glaze shows fine crackling, iron spots, and subtle variations from firing, giving the surface a character that speaks of its age. Shallow and simple in form, the underside still clearly shows marks from the potter’s wheel and spiral thread-cutting. Each of the five plates differs slightly in shape and glaze, and seeing these variations side by side is part of their charm. A lovely size for sweets, small appetizers, or condiments. There is something special about bringing a small plate from the Edo period into an everyday table today.

Vintage Small Bowl – Flower Petal Motif, Gosu Decor A Japanese vintage porcelain small bowl, probably dating from the Meiji to Taisho period, with hand-painted gosu decor. The exterior is covered with a repeating flower petal motif, while the varying shades of cobalt blue create a distinct rhythm around the bowl. The plain interior contrasts with the richly decorated exterior, giving the piece a balanced appearance. An old repair remains on the rim, suggesting that the bowl was carefully treasured and repaired rather than discarded. It is a small trace of how this piece has been used and cared for over time.

Yo no bi (用の美) is a Japanese concept that describes the beauty found through use. Objects were made not simply to be admired, but to be lived with. Comfort in the hand, ease of use, and the traces left by time all become part of their beauty.
