Caught stealing yesterday during Festifall, a children's event!

Historic Folsom was filled with little ghosts, goblins, superheroes, princesses and plenty of Halloween spirit Saturday as droves of children and families flocked to Sutter Street for the annual Festifall celebration!

The popular Halloween tradition brought families from across the area to the Historic District for an afternoon of trick-or-treating, costumes, games and family fun. Candy buckets filled up as costumed youngsters made their way from business to business, where participating merchants welcomed them with treats and Halloween festivities.

Bayside Church of Folsom joined Historic District merchants once again to help bring the celebration to life, offering additional activities, including inflatables, crafts and games, for children to enjoy throughout the afternoon.

From colorful costumes and decorated storefronts to families strolling along Sutter Street, the three-hour celebration brought another afternoon of Halloween-themed fun to the heart of Historic Folsom.

ARTIST SERIES: LAO WANG • @refill97

Originally from Hefei, China, Wang Jun, better known as Lao Wang, grew up in Shanghai surrounded by art. His older sister taught him how to draw, and with an art school right next to his childhood home, he spent his early years surrounded by graffiti, paintings, and all kinds of creative work.

Wang began tattooing at just 16 years old in 2013, after watching a documentary that inspired him to pursue tattooing as a career. Just a few years later, at 18, he sent his portfolio to Zhuo Dan Ting, who invited him to join Shanghai Tattoo in 2016. He’s been part of the Shanghai Tattoo family for 10 years now!

A lifelong fan of classical art, Wang draws much of his inspiration from Renaissance sculptures and oil paintings, especially the works of Michelangelo and Bernini. He’s particularly passionate about bringing those influences into his realism tattoos.

Outside the shop, Wang has a serious appreciation for music, fashion, and vintage collectibles. He loves old-school electronic music like Kraftwerk, soul music, vintage vinyl records, antique silver jewelry, and vintage clothing. He also collects handmade tattoo machines and has a huge appreciation for the craftsmanship and history behind them.

When he’s not tattooing, Wang enjoys cooking, traveling, and listening to music, which he says is pretty much always playing whenever he’s home. He also has two cats back in Shanghai that he loves so much he has both of them tattooed on his body!

Despite his heavily tattooed appearance and unique personal style, Wang is actually a pretty quiet, gentle, and extremely patient guy, something that often surprises people when they first get to know him.
