More much fun in the space. The first two with a lovely visit and moment talking with @bklynkennedy and @jackieshatz and meeting her husband @johnmorton890. Hadn’t realized their collaborations and with the Kohler foundation. AND that Randy had written a lovely thing about a cool sound piece that John did in Central Park in 2009, with The NY Times… Also Jackie brought up Nabakov and butterflies. ✨

Captured some of the visits with friends on Fri/ Sat @underdonk. In final weekend gathering..
‘Artifact as Memory Archive’ with Elisa Lendvay, Christina Tenaglia, and Osamu Kobayashi, curated by Chris Bertholf.

So excited to share this exhibition with Des Moines. “The City That Never Sleeps” brings together artists based in the NYC region and showcases work as varied as the city itself. Please join me for the opening reception on Friday, 4-6pm inside @olsonlarsengalleries.

Expect to discover work by Ray Geary (@raygeary), Sarah Heinemann (@sarahheinemannstudio), Andy Cross (@historypainter), and Jackie Hilmes (@studio.jkh). A couple of my own pieces might make an appearance as well.

Andy Cross is a Brooklyn-based artist whose richly layered compositions blur boundaries between styles and mediums. A self-described “hermit with wanderlust,” he draws deeply from world history, spirituality and his own travels, synthesizing memories and visual impressions into vibrant works that defy easy categorization. Energetic color, gestural brushwork and psychological depth invite viewers to explore memory, place and experience in nuanced ways.

See Andy’s work in person this Friday at our reception for “The City That Never Sleeps” from 4-6pm and explore our collection of his work online at katherinelockcontemporary.com

Mario Diacono 1930–2025 ❤️

Mario Diacono was an extraordinary personality full of passion, kindness and versatility – an important Italian poet, artist, art historian, and gallery owner all rolled into one. With his gallery in Bologna, founded in 1978, he supported artists of the Arte Povera movement such as Jannis Kounellis. In Rome, he was involved in reviving painting, and with his galleries in New York and Boston, he promoted art internationally. He was highly regarded in the art world as a unique mentor and was a source of inspiration, wisdom and valuable conversations for countless artists and creative professionals. I am grateful – I met Mario a long time ago through Andy Cross and saw him in Boston and later in Reggio Emilia again. What a privilege. He will be missed incredibly.
