Field Visit to the Regular House. @proclima_de Intello installed which acts as the vapor variable membrane to mitigate moisture migration through wall and roof assemblies, as well as holding in the blown in insulation. First time we got @timberhp.insulatebetter blown in wood fiber on a project. Less dust than cellulose. Higher carbon storage. Same R-value per inch. Very happy. Drywall and exterior finishes next. #brightcommon #passivehouse @passivehouseinstituteus

So much good work at this very regular, extremely normal house. 4" of exterior @rockwoolna ROCKWOOL installed to form a continuous thermally broken jacket around the home. @alpenhpp triple pane tilt turn high performance windows and doors placed at the plane of exterior siding thanks to @thermalbuck.ca thermal window bucks. Exterior furring strips, cor-a-vent and insect screens in for the rain screen. @jameshardie siding panels behind the underground electric service. Nothing to see here. This isn't a house. #brightcommon

One of the ways Passive Buildings both reduce energy use while increasing durability is to eradicate thermal bridges.....areas of a building envelope that transmit heat / cold directly through from outside to in and vice versa. One of the most challenging areas to provide a thermal break is around openings like windows and doors. This is the first time we've specified Thermal Buck ( @thermalbuck.ca ) , a high density pre-molded foam thermal break designed to place the window in the plane of the exterior insulation, deftly handling the thermal bridging while allowing for a standard siding / flashing installation, reducing complexity at every opening. Happy to see flashing sloped AWAY from the building too.
