Five dresses. Five different moods. As she imagines herself wearing each one, she gets lost in the feeling each dress brings - confidence, elegance, excitement, softness. Shoot happens! 🤣 I looked at the art department and thought “how hard can it be.” Turns out – very. The vision was a zen garden. Sounds calm, almost minimal, right? Except minimal on camera usually means maximal in prep. We spent weeks chasing the right sand, hunting for boulders the director wanted that turned out to be physically impossible to transport, driving from one stone yard to another, loading my own car full of rocks, and at one point pulling savanna-looking grass out of the ground in the middle of February because that’s what the scene needed. And that was all before we even rolled a frame. Then the shoot itself, where every reset meant raking an entire garden back to exactly how it was, take after take, or the whole thing breaks in continuity. Here’s what stuck with me: the art department is the part everyone quietly assumes you can save money on. It’s not. It’s the part that decides whether your “simple” idea is actually simple or a three-week logistical headache wearing a calm face. I’ll never look at a clean, minimal set the same way again. Passion projects hit different. You finish exhausted and you’d sign up for the next one immediately. Swipe through if you want the full Sh**t.
