It was an honor to play my film Interpreter at @hammer_museum as part of @farhangfoundation Iranian cinema month. Special thanks to @royazara for selecting my film and @rezakhan for his continuous support.
Truly an honor to share the stage with @berishalmashi and @hodasobhaniii

I was honored to speak on intersectionality between the revolution in Iran and global movements for freedom.

Once we learn how connected our struggles really are, we can take actions to build solidarity networks that focuses on the roots of global oppressions and builds paths towards freedom for all.

It meant the world to have @janayathefuture in the crowd. A true revolutionary who has inspired me continuously with their words and wisdom. #jinjiyanazadi #blm

And last but not least grateful for the wonderful cast and crew that made this movie possible.

Another post for cast and crew coming soon…

Thank you to everyone who came to our film screening @voxpopuligallery on November 12th! The film screening “Jin Jiyan Azadi: Kurdish and Iranian Women’s Cinema” was a fundraiser in solidarity with the protests in Iran and our inaugural event so it meant a lot to see everyone show up. We are consistently humbled by the support of our community and raised $1,050 for mutual aid requests. A majority of these funds went towards helping a trans, Kurdish refugee with her housing, food, and medical procedures (LINK IN BIO if you want to continue to support). We also worked with Canadian activists to send funds to a mutual aid request going directly to medical supplies for communities in Kurdistan. BB also always pays participating filmmakers a competitive screening fee so we can support the SWANA art community!

We take care of each other / نهتم ببعضنا البعض

Current feature in Frames Per Second:

October 4-15, 2022
Futility Season (2021) is an attempt to revive a friendship that has faded away due to circumstances that imprisoned one and forced the other to emigrate. Neda, who lives in Iran, spent her thirtieth birthday in prison, and Hoda, the film director, began her thirties in a new country as an immigrant.

Runtime 23m. In Farsi with English subtitles. Directed by Hoda Sobhani.

Neda was again arrested in Tehran this week. Protests have erupted in Iran since the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Jina Amini, who had been detained by the country's so-called morality police on September 16, 2022. People in cities around the world have gathered in the streets in a show of solidarity with women in Iran. Striking words and images that have typified the protests rocking Iran include chants of "Women, life, freedom!" Please pay attention to and talk about the protests in Iran; sweeping internet and media blackouts have been imposed to attempt to suppress information and quell protests.

Save the date November 2, 2022 for an online panel event held in conjunction with Frames Per Second. Join us for a conversation on diaristic storytelling and narrative technique with SocDoc filmmakers Hoda Sobhani, Chisato Hughes, and Oana Tenter.
