Two non-coffee drinkers walk into a coffee roastery…

While exploring St. Pete, we stopped by @HoggBatch, a Black-owned experimental coffee roaster founded by twin brothers David and Duane Hogg.

Now my coffee friends already know how our coffee taste test went. 😂 But what I really appreciated was learning about the creativity and craftsmanship behind what they’re doing.

Hogg Batch specializes in small-batch, barrel-aged coffee, creating unique flavor profiles that I know my REAL coffee drinkers would appreciate.

As for me? Matcha me, please! 😂 And when I tell you that matcha was GOODT?! One of the best I’ve had.

Whether you want to experience their coffee for yourself or grab a bag to take home, this is a Black-owned St. Pete business worth knowing about and supporting. ❤️

Breakfast..and more greens you probably didn’t know you could eat! 🌱 and of course…no morning is complete without @hoggbatch coffee. ☕️🥰

This morning I harvested my first okra pod and a handful of bush beans. Not quite enough to build an entire scramble around, so I raided the garden for a few more greens you may not know are both nutritious and delicious.

My sweet potatoes aren’t ready to harvest yet, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t producing food. I picked a handful of sweet potato leaves along with a few wild violet leaves (important note: these are wild violets *not all violets are edible*).

Most leafy greens are excellent sources of vitamins A, C, and K, but sweet potato leaves also provide potassium and magnesium to support cardiac health, along with antioxidants like quercetin and caffeoylquinic acid for inflammation. As I’m training for the Army 10-Miler, I’ll happily take all the colorful, anti-inflammatory foods I can get!

Wild violets have been used in traditional herbalism for centuries and are often associated with supporting lymphatic wellness. Whether you’re growing food, foraging responsibly, or simply trying to waste less, it’s amazing how much nourishment can be hiding in plain sight.

Today’s breakfast is a good reminder that sometimes the most overlooked parts of the garden are the most rewarding.
