The biggest headlines in tennis this week!

TLDR;
1. @emma_navarro48 releases a brave post detailing the health issues she’s faced over the last 3 years. If you haven’t read it, I definitely encourage you to do so.

2. Daniil Medvedev was defaulted from the China open for accidentally striking a spectator in the crowd in his semi final match vs Djokovic.

3. @djokernole remains unbeaten at the China open with a 33 match winning record. He’ll face De Minaur in the final as he becomes the oldest man in @atptour history to reach a 500 final.

4. The top 2 women’s seeds, Rybakina and Sabalenka lost in China to unseeded opponents.

5. @keinishikori retired from professional tennis at his home tournament in Tokyo

6. @lacoste took over court Philippe-Chatrier for its Spring/Summer 2027 runway show

As always, make sure you’re following along for the latest updates!

The @wta Finals are coming to Charlotte, North Carolina from 2027 through at least 2029! And to go with it, the WTA Global Headquarters will also find a new home in the city.

The event will be held at the @spectrumcenter home of the NBA’s @hornets with additional programming taking place at the Charlotte Convention Center.

With this news, Charlotte is set to become a major new hub for women’s tennis in the US!

More details to come 🤝

There have been countless headlines about influencers & creators at this year’s US Open! But let’s use this spotlight to focus in on the larger media problem that tennis faces!

The tours and players themselves don’t even own the rights to their match footage at Grand Slams. And beyond the slams, each tournament has different media deals with different stakeholders across multiple different countries. It’s unlike any other sport in that regard.

Because of that, giving creators the ability to film the actual tennis has been something that’s extremely difficult to negotiate being “kosher” for the broadcasters. And it requires a fundamental shift of the tennis media landscape that it doesn’t yet have the infrastructure to monitor and maintain.

When you credential creators for a tennis tournament and they can film everything BUT THE TENNIS, what do you really expect to happen?

Tennis needs a solution and it needs one fast.

2006 marks the first year we got to see a unique look specifically designed for a US Open night session!

The famous little black Nike dress was inspired by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Designed by @nataliecandrian for @mariasharapova, this was the first time we saw a player debut a different look for her night matches vs her day matches.

Ever since then, tennis fashion fans have looked forward to see the variation in kits players would wear between night and day with it almost becoming a customary tradition to have 2 kits for the top players!

The quiet reason why stadium tickets at the US Open are so much pricier this year. And it’s all got to do with a 3 year $800 million dollar renovation project due to be finalized in 2027.

Did you notice these changes?
