HEY, there’s a new place for your butt in town and it’s called my chair!!!! I took this wonderful class with @holdfast.craft at @barberwoodworking and learned how to make this Playing Chair designed by the great Grant Howard. It was a blast. I finally put the finishing touches on it this weekend. He’s doing another one coming up on May 15th-16th. JUST SAYING! It’s very sturdy. You’re allowed to paint an accent strip on it when you bring it home. It’s your chair - you can do whatever you want!!!!

It was my honor to host the @cumberlandfurnitureguild Winter meeting this afternoon. I demonstrated some of my favorites techniques to hone the inner eye (and rely less on tape measures and tools), and @gkhoward and I shared about some of the exciting things on the horizon for BW with our internships and classes.

If you’re a furniture maker in TN you belong in the Guild! Joining the guild in 2008 was the first time I felt like I was making connections with folks on a parallel path to my own. Instagram has changed the landscape of community amongst woodworkings, in almost all good ways, however - there’s still nothing better than belonging to a local guild and meeting in person.

We are pleased to announce that Grant Howard has been promoted to the position of Operations and Education Manager. Grant is a talented and passionate woodworker, and has been working with us over the last year, after taking classes with us since 2022. He’ll be overseeing day to day operations, managing Interns, and helping to make the Internships and Classes we offer as rewarding as possible. We are so excited about what Grant’s previous experience in management, video production, and his belief in our vision, will bring to our organization, and we are more excited than ever for the future at BW.

This last Thursday, we hosted an “alumni party” at BW - all past employees and interns were invited, as well as a few dedicated students and other VIPS. Billed as a celebration of where we’ve been, and where we are going, the event truly lived up to all our hopes and expectations. Speaking for myself, it has been my utmost privilege and pleasure to work with these folks, serving the Nashville community, over these past 18+ years. My heart is full, and I’m even more excited for the future of BW now, than I was as a young man just trying to get paid to make stuff out of wood.

Grateful and Hopeful -
