The Baby Holga Project

The twenty-second set of Baby Holga images from the Baby Holga Project. Taylor shot a roll of @lomography Orca film with Baby Holga #6.

The Baby Holga project is a collaboration between photographers and artists around the world. We have mailed out nine Baby Holgas around the world for people to shoot a roll of 110 film and then pass the camera on to the next person.

In 2020 I had just started my dream job at a major art institution. Having a look around the old darkroom while my boss wasn’t looking, I found the tiniest little camera I had ever seen in the bottom drawer of a disused filing cabinet, the Pentax Auto 110. I thought it must have been a toy, but the lens looked pretty serious, so I did some research and bam, a new film format was now a reality in my already obsessed little brain…

Fast forward to 2026 and I get a message from Alec Pain at The Daily Holga asking if we would like to be part of The Baby Holga project, where a Holga Micro 110 camera would travel the world to raise awareness for this underused and misunderstood format, hopefully encouraging Holga to make the model again. I finally had my chance!

The Baby is a point and shoot, manual wind camera and framing is through the tiny plastic framing window, it’s as basic as they come. The film is 110, the teensiest of frames. Lomography makes an array of film cassettes that are super easy to load, and many labs still develop 110, much to my surprise.

Owning many Holgas, Claire and I had hope that this baby would offer up some brilliant results, as long as the light leaks held off. You can’t be a perfectionist with these cameras, they’re unpredictable, but some of the most interesting film images we’ve made have been with Holgas.

Shooting the Baby was a dream. Keep the thing around a metre away from your subject, one click and wind on. We knocked over a roll of Orca 100 and Metropolis 100–400, which we developed at 400. The Metropolis sucked, so we made it B&W, worked great.

Alec is right, the Holga Micro 110 is a fun little camera. The results are really interesting, the only camera I’ve used where the image exposes past the sides of the rectangular film plane, which gives super interesting and creative results. Happy accidents are part of this camera’s core personality. We loved it, and so will you.

Come on Holga, let’s go!

Taking a shot on film is like sending a love-note to your future self.
By the time you get your film developed, you don't remember, what you shot on it. Sometimes it even takes me a little time to remember where I took those frames.
Lovely process of documenting every day's magic. #filmphotography

Ok kids, it’s very important that when you develop multiple rolls of film you put the right amount of developer in the tank, so you don’t only develop half the picture. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Got lucky that I got some development on the underdeveloped half.
