Starting a band!

Meet Arnie!

He's been part of our friend group for roughly 17 years. When we "borrowed" him from an @hollerado concert (our apologies the concert was great but sometimes the alcohol dictates the night.)

He's spent time living in my parents foyer scaring the shit outta my dad as he came down for his morning coffee. Then he was relegated to the basement when my parents no longer appreciated his ambience.

Then he moved in with my brother and lived in his front window discouraging solicitors with a stern sign in his hands unfortunately that's when he lost his legs. RIP Arnie's legs.

Since then he's been stuck in my brother's basement until now.

Welcome Arnie to the shop. Right now he lives between our lucky R2 and an air purifyer. We will be giving him a speech bubble and more permanent home soon! And Thanks again to at @hollerado
he was in good hands (minus the whole leg thing)

Today is World Restart a Heart Day, and we think this is something everyone should know.

If someone suddenly collapses and isn’t responding normally, knowing what to do can make a huge difference.

Call 911. Push hard and fast in the centre of the chest. Get an AED if one is available.

You don’t have to be a nurse, a doctor or a paramedic to help someone. But knowing these steps before you’re ever in that situation could make all the difference to someone’s family.

That’s a big part of why we do what we do with When the Beat Gets Busy. We want more people to understand heart conditions, know CPR and feel confident enough to step in when someone needs help.

Please take a few minutes to learn the basics and share this with someone you care about.

When the Beat Gets Busy
Inspired by one story. Dedicated to every heart.

4 years ago today I got to hang out with Nixon and Jake Boyd of Hollerado when they were the special guest performers at my friend Mike Lalonde’s open mic at Lowertown in Ottawa!

You can watch my 2 hour deep dive interviews with the brothers using the link in my bio!

Live Loud at Massey Hall was a powerful night of music, stories and some incredible Canadian talent — Bif Naked, Fefe Dobson, Crown Lands, The Strumbellas, Maestro Fresh Wes, Michie Mee, Julian Taylor, Tim Hicks, The Washboard Union, and members of Sum 41, Billy Talent and The Offspring, among others.

The night was about much more than music. Live Loud brought people together to raise awareness around mental health, trauma and substance-use health, while supporting the work of Matthew Perry House and Make Music Matter.

There were a few changes from the advertised lineup, but the music and the message still made for a memorable night at Massey Hall. A great cause, a lot of talent, and an important conversation that needs to keep going.

DID YOU KNOW that our new song “Get Away” was originally written for a contest to open for @hollerado ?!

The challenge was to write a song using the lyrics from their then unheard song “Start A Band”. We liked what we came up with so much that we kept working on it and eventually added our own lyrics (but we kept the opening line!)
