🐘 WEEKEND VIBES 🐘

🎥 Kire Godal’s dedication to African wildlife and culture converge in her upcoming film: Tolstoy, The Tomato Thief.

🐘 This painting is inspired by Kire's film and dedicated to Tolstoy.

Oil on canvas. Palette knife painting. 24x20" / 61x51cm

🗣️ ”Tolstoy is a super tusker elephant in Kenya, and super tuskers are very rare in today's world. So he's very special and unique in that way. The story is about a super tusker elephant and a little boy of twelve years old who hates him.It takes place in Kenya, at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, where some of the world's last super tusker elephants live."

🎙️NEW EPISODE 🎙️

Insect Whisperer: The Art of Bug Photography

🦋🐝🐞🐜🦗🦟🪰🪲🪳🕷️🕸️

📷In the vast tapestry of the visual arts, there's a world that often goes unnoticed, a realm where the smallest creatures become the stars of the show. In this blog post, we're zooming in on the fascinating work of Marit van Ekelenburg, a macro photographer whose love for insects is as intricate as the subjects she captures.

📷 Marit didn't always have her sights set on the minuscule marvels of the natural world. With a background in Russian studies and history, it was a chance request from her mother to photograph her garden that led Merritt to discover a hidden passion. What started as a simple task to capture the beauty of flowers quickly transformed into an obsession with the tiny inhabitants nestled within the petals.

📷 In our latest podcast episode, Marit shares her journey from being a history graduate to becoming a macro photographer extraordinaire. Her story is not just about the stunning images she creates but also about the transformation she underwent - from a person slightly afraid of insects to someone who now sees them as fellow beings deserving of our attention and respect.

Episode 3 of AART—the podcast about female artists—has dropped in a podcast app near you...

... and my guest is English artist Lindsay Mullen who spends her time either in her studio on the island of Menorca or in Washington, DC. A lifelong artist, Lindsay was born in Hertfordshire and graduated with a B.A. from West Surrey College of Art and Design. An opportunity in her teens led her to the Spanish island of Menorca where she worked diligently and in relative isolation to establish herself as an artist. Painting on hemp sacks and surviving on a diet of chicken wings were just some of the sacrifices she made in those early days. This clearly paid off and before long she was exhibiting around the island and enjoying her first commissions. Her career took off and she has not looked back as her work has garnered international awards with showings in solo and collective exhibitions around the world.
Lindsay says: ‘I focus on creating work that both captures my eye and enters my soul, so that a palpable inspiration has no choice but to emerge and be shared with others.’ Lindsay’s next exhibition is in Ca n’Oliver, Menorca entitled "Menorca and the light of the North” from Hartung-Bergman” opening April 22 through September 24.
