Aid station 4. That’s where I lost it.

I’d been up since 3am — getting relay runners staged, volunteers situated, and ran 25+ miles alongside the ultra ladies in the hottest of DC days. By the time I got there, I was worn down just enough that I couldn’t hold it in anymore.

I fell into @ulmerkf arms while @jllordi @mayaleo__ handed me juice, and I just cried. But I could cry because I felt held. In that moment, I was no longer managing or leading CCR, I was inside of it.

I could finally see and feel CCR for myself. @jgib_20 had the logistics and all the gaps that you can’t think to name or know. @alioop_0_o_runs was being the light she always is and shepherding our ultra girls. The relay ladies were having a ball and so lovingly bringing the newbies into the fold. The ultra girls were pushing toward a special milestone I had no doubt they’d all hit. Our support crew was the best on-course lifeline. The aid stations — an addition I thought I wanted as a “nice to have” for the ultra runners — turned out to be a need to have, for everyone.

@jmilllzzz asked me mid-race if any friends were coming to cheer. Yes and no, I told her because they’re all out here working the race for me. Photography, driving, bike support, logistics, relay support, post-race recovery and grilling, voice notes from afar. Every role and gap, covered.

CCR started in 2021 as a platform for Black women runners and a love letter to DC, covering all 8 wards. A new way to run that was community focused, that I hadn’t seen yet in the District. It’s since grown every year. And it takes all of me every year. But, every year it gives me back more than I could’ve imagined.

What an incredible year 4 or Chapter 2 as I’m calling it, which @hanadphoto is so beautifully capturing for a June 29th special screening.

Reality vs social media right here. It isn't all pretty; it's mostly ugly, 😆. The ugly days nobody sees count more. Shout out to everybody that keep putting that pain into showing up for life in general. I have some dope, motivating people that pop up on my timeline that keep me inspired to stay in the pocket and "U.O.E.N.O" in my Rocko voice 💪🏾 #QGTM #IMWHY #SteelSharpensSteel #runFORYALIFE #runflyingpig e FOODIERUNNER usually fueled by @ketobrick and @equipfoods

This one is for the Gworlz ☺️💕

Year 4 at the Women’s National 8K and another PR 🏅

At this point, I look forward to this race every year with @districtrunningcollective and our “I’m Just a Girl” campaign. It’s become a tradition that means so much more than the miles.

Grateful for my crew, the energy, and that extra push from the cheer squad right when I needed it most 💕

Word of for Medal Monday: Gratitude. Sometimes I look at my life in awe of what I’ve already overcome, who I’m becoming and what I have yet to conquer. Yeah, y’all all have your own version of who I may be to you. But the only version that truly matters is the version in which I see myself. And still, I’m grateful to those who have seen many versions of me, grateful to those who’ve rallied in my corner through them all, and grateful to those who continue to pour into me. I’m grateful for autonomy over my life and the chance to wake up and decide how I’m going to show up for myself each day. I’m grateful for this body that still moves the way it does. Ya girl PR’d on accident. Shaved 16 minutes off last years time, on accident. Show some love to yourself today.
