In celebration of Chaplain Appreciation Month this October, yesterday our chaplain team traded hospital hallways for the driving range! ⛳☀️ We gathered at Topgolf in St. Petersburg to pray together, share lunch, swing some clubs, and laugh a lot. 😂 WHEN A ZERO GRADE TURNS INTO A SERMON! 🎹🎤 Every morning, our chaplain team gathers for huddle to peer-review one another’s chart notes, share feedback, and learn together. But this morning, my friend and colleague, Chaplain Moses Brown (@drmbrownceo), received a grade of ZERO from yours truly! 😂 Moses wasn’t about to accept that grade quietly! With Chaplain Ja’Chin (@holnessviews) supplying the preacher’s chords on his phone, Moses rose to the occasion and gave us a spirited presentation that turned a ZERO into a moment worthy of the pulpit! 🙌🎹😂 Before the chart reviews, the spiritual care, and the demands of the workday began, we enjoyed a little creativity, laughter, friendship, and good-natured fun. Because chaplaincy is serious work—but that doesn’t mean we can’t share a little joy along the way. #ProudPastor “Collaboration will save this generation.” - @therealsam.b And that’s exactly what we did at @pfaspirituallife Me and my brother @jvstakidfromqueens joined together and decided we would do the impossible… win our young people back for God! In a day & time where it is advised… “Preach less than 20 minutes” “Don’t give them to much theology” “More TedTalk and less GodTalk” We decided to go full force and not just preach to them, BUT TALK WITH THEM! We gave them the space to question, doubt, express, talk back, critique… a space where we came and REASONED TOGETHER. There is this myth that our teenagers have a short attention span… But they spend MAD HOURS on Tiktok, IG, YouTube…. We watch 3-4 hour movies! (Avatar is way too long🤦🏽‍♂️) The problem is not time, it’s content. If your content don’t got no SUBSTANCE, of course people will tune you out. But in the words of @mannyarango - “If they can handle GEOMETRY, they can handle THEOLOGY.” We gave these students over ONE HOUR and THIRTY MINUTES of straight THEOLOGY. And as a result, 25 of our young people got baptized during our Fall Semester Week of Prayer. Cant wait to go higher next year!
