The world infamous Harald Oimoen visited us at rehearsal today. It was our last jam before moving into Sound Image for 2 last (in a dress) rehearsals at Sound Image SF before we embark on our US Tour!

EVERYONE is firing on ALL cylinders in preparation for our first tour of the States since 2011. Eli Lucas & Avery Thurman have been pushing themselves so hard that they’re pushing us. It’s contagious.

We are cycling through 18 songs spanning 38 years of Forbidden’s catalog. The fact we embark on this journey the same day “FORBIDDEN” is released only adds to the aura of this trip.

We’ll be starting in Las Vegas & the Usual Place on Friday the 23rd & finishing in Los Angeles at the Teragram Ballroom on November 22nd. Lots of killer stops in between with our good Pals Heathen & Void!

We hope to see everyone there and expect you to be singing the new songs by two or three shows into this run!

Last night’s RUSH show was a highlight in a lifetime of amazing events I’ve witnessed. Somehow in my adventures of music & concerts I’ve NEVER been able to see RUSH. It just never worked out.

That changed yesterday thanks to the kindness of Neil’s widow Carrie & @theneilpeartmemorialfoundation via my great friend Eric German. He knew how much I’ve loved RUSH my entire life. He also knows how important Peart’s drumming & lyrical prowess is to me.

What I took from last night is that Geddy & Alex found the best possible way to honor their Brother & still get the joy out of playing the music they created together. It’s a difficult situation to navigate, but you just know as a RUSH fan… they’d nail it.

Neil words always resonated with me going back to my Tom Sawyer (teen) years. They do the same for my son now. In fact, while he was in middle school one of his teachers asked everyone to pick lyrics from a song that meant something to them and recite it to the class.

Dom chose Closer To The Heart. Being there with Dominick was extremely special for both of us. I kept squeezing him. It was happening.

The band itself was inspired. Geddy & Alex are having a blast & playing great. I hope I have skills that last into my 70’s. Anika is the ONLY right choice. She’s going about it humbly & not trying too hard. She’s serving the songs, not herself.

I had tears & goosebumps many times last night. Going with my son, Avery Thurman (21 y/o bass wiz kid) & Harald Oimoen was all laughs there & back. Harald asked the youngin’s how the show was on a scale of 1-10.

Avery said 2112. Dom said 50.

Thank you Carrie. You made a lot of people infinitely happy by supporting this tribute to Neil & thank you for the excellent view of the show.

Things have been ramping up as we get closer to our album release / tour kickoff next Friday, October 23rd.

Avery & Eli are absolutely SMASHING IT through our setlist as we’ve rehearsed more over the last 2 months than we had in the previous 12 months. Both of these guys are ridiculously talented & humble guys at their core. They know the assignment & respect Matt & Chris immensely. Put together, they make an insane rhythm section that have collectively learned 18 songs that we can pick n choose from each night.

Last Wednesday Eli & yours truly took a day trip to LA to visit the Soul Tone cymbals showroom. Iki (owner of the company) spent a few hours letting Eli try every combination of crashes, rides, hi-hats & chinas he wanted. We all listened intensely & Eli chose wisely.

Thank you to Iki & Soul Tone for the extra care & attention to detail. Everyone over there are wonderful & warm folks.

Also, thank you to DDrum & Mike Petrak for sending Eli a killer kit right before the tour kicks off. It’s a black metallic sparkle finish & will look amazing with the lights shining off of it.

Thank you so much, Mike!

We’re chipping away each day. Improving in large increments as we go. We’re bringing our A+ game to this tour honoring Forbidden’s Legacy & adding new music & blood into the mix.

We’ll see you out there with Heathen & Void. First date at The Usual Place in Vegas!

Craig
