Without this group, there would be no cookbook.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for stepping up in YOUR time of crisis. To the teens who were stuck at home in their bedrooms when they should have been in the prime of their lives far from their parents. To the chefs who spend their lives bending over backwards to feed us in the best of times. In this moment, when you were laying off your own restaurant family from their jobs and facing closures - staring down the barrel of the gun - you gave the students your time to make this book and you showed up to feed us again, despite your burnout and personal trials. In turn, you all fed at least 15,000 others on Tuesday night. I am privileged to have had this opportunity to have met you all and to have experienced your enormous hearts. Thank you.

It's finally here! Time to celebrate the launch of A Flash in the Pandemic – the spectacular cookbook compiled by a group of local high school students who wanted to highlight the plight of restaurants during the pandemic and to raise some much-needed funds for Daily Bread Food Bank. See link in bio to purchase tickets!

When: Tues. Oct. 11, 6pm-9pm
What: Cocktails and canapes with food and drink from some of Toronto's top culinary talents, including a few of the city’s inaugural Michelin-starred chefs! And live performances by Queer Songbook Orchestra, musical guest Felix Quastel, Jim Creegan from Barenaked Ladies, and DJ Vinyl Destination.
Where: Daily Bread Food Bank, 191 New Toronto St.
Each ticket holder will receive an electronic version of A Flash in the Pandemic cookbook and some surprise gifts on site.
All proceeds to benefit Daily Bread Food Bank. In a time when they are seeing record numbers of both client visits and food being distributed to member agencies across the city, your support is greatly appreciated.

Catherine Cashin’s Rhubarb Pie – Rhubarb, Bacon & Mustard Terrine en Croûte

My grandmother came from New Waterford, on Cape Breton Island and she loved rhubarb. I have a strong association between rhubarb, summers in Nova Scotia and memories of her. As a result, rhubarb is one of my absolute favourite flavours and every year I look for new ways of using it. Admittedly I still think the best way is stewed down with sugar and lemons, served chilled with vanilla ice cream, which is how we always had it.

Unabashedly this terrine turned out really well – the rhubarb aspic on top is incredibly refreshing and pairs beautifully with the smokiness of the bacon and the pop from the mustard. The chunks of rhubarb suspended in the aspic we’re infused with honey from @homesteadbeekeeper

Get a slice of summer while you can. Available this weekend @thedogandtiger

Rhubarb from @alexzisman farms in North York, Ontario.

We had a spectacular and simple little staff lunch today, which was our new homestead honey ham on @brodflour multigrain with horseradish mustard, Ontario tomatoes and arugula. The best foods are just simple ones, made with care and from our pasture raised animals.

Coming soon to the store: 100% grass-fed and finished pastrami.
