Now available and on display for the “Friends And Family” Exhibition at Brutal
(DM for purchase)

800mm x 1000mm

Mixed media on canvas

Framed (French Oak)

This artwork was completed in 2022 during a residency James Thomas did with Brutal. in Cape Town. The artwork pays homage to human beings dedication to the ride. A mythical act of communing with motion to raise or elevate ones vibrational plain. Pictured in the top left is a stallion like white thoroughbred with the word Ride The. inscribed above it. In addition to iconic pioneer surfers Phil Edwards (who appears to be emerging from a waterfall in the lower middle of the painting) and Mickey Dora on a piece of cloth affixed to the painting. Man or woman, young or old we all enjoy the ride.

Jared Aufrichtig originally meet James Thomas in Johannesburg while James was bartending for some friends who had a night club and art gallery who Jared had a exhibition with in the past. He later put James in his first gallery exhibition at David Krut Projects in 2018.

Christian Cook’s Irrational hatred #17

Greetings dearest Instagram end user, In today’s TEDtalk we shall examine the art of songwriting - specifically, the craft of lyricism and creativity, or rather, the lack therof…

I find myself harboring an almost pathological HATRED for artists and musicians who have evidently mistaken the pursuit of songwriting and the creativity thereof, for the mentality of a toddler with a basic grasp of chronology.

These lazy, indolent, creatively impoverished, good for nothing inept “musicians” who just list things in sequential order!?. Days of the week? So groundbreaking Bruce Springsteen! Counting 1-2-3? You’re revolutionary Jackson family! Spelling out the word Glamorous? You are truly a visionary genius FERGIE! A golden god, bravo, look at you go!

How have we let these crimes against humanity go unpunished, like “Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday” somehow constitutes profound artistic expression? *snorts in haughty derision*

We have all encountered nursery rhymes possessed of greater lyrical sophistication than half of these chart-toppers who think slapping the letters “B-A-N-A-N-A-S” or “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” over a four-chord progression makes them the next Townes Van Zandt or Alexander David Turner.

Because of this, it means The Bangles can somehow achieve immortality by simply reciting & rhyming weekdays & where entire careers are constructed upon the revolutionary concept of knowing what comes after Tuesday and it’s NOT OK! (unless you’re 5)

Lazy bunch of mouth breathing, half-witted, ghastly pop wannabe reprobates counting to four as though they’d just mastered the concept of basic numerical sequence theory, after completing a postgraduate dissertation in ‘Things That Come After Other Things’.

I will die on this hill…

Yours in basic arithmetic
C-Honey

Signals Between Us opens this weekend @aa_gallerie
This group exhibition explores how meaning is never fixed, always shifting, reshaped, and reimagined through stories, memory, sound, and image.

We’re excited to introduce the artists whose works transmit signals subtle, loud, poetic, and coded, waiting to be read in your own way.

Each artist brings their own transmission, layered, resonant, and alive.
