On the turntable: David Bowie: “Diamond Dogs” 1974, RCA Victor Grade: VG+ Eighth studio record by English musician David Bowie. Unsure of where his career was going after “Ziggy” David mixed multiple projects into DD; a scrapped musical based on “Ziggy”, an adaptation of Orwell’s book “1984”, and an urban apocalyptic scenario based on the writings of author William S. Burroughs. “Diamond Dogs” not only featured the return of Tony Visconti, but also in the absence of Mick Ronson who had been so instrumental in “Ziggy” with his production and guitar playing, David played all the lead guitar on Diamond Dogs”. The tour supporting “Diamond Dogs” was eventually released as “David Live” but by this time David had completely changed his whole look and approach going into the follow up “Young Americans”. I can very much recall being disappointed with “Young…”. This was a time when “Ziggy” followed by DD and he comes out with his hair cut, in a suit; basically the “Thin White Duke”. Was “Young Americans” bad record IMO? By no means. It just flew in the face of everything I was expecting from David. In retrospect, it’s not surprising in the least. *Special thanks to my friend @hondareesan for getting me thinking about David this morning* #davidbowie #diamonddogs #thinwhiteduke #ziggystardust #ziggystardustandthespidersfrommars #mickronson #tonyvisconti #vinyl #vinylrecords #records #vinylporn #recordporn #recordcommunity #vinylgram #recordpost #vinylgram #recordcollection #vinylcollection #recordgram #music #musiclifestyle #musiclife #vinylpost
