MayBay Look Back - While we prep for our next trip to Magdalena Bay, we look back at some of the highlights and awesome fish with great people from last year. Too many photos to post on one carousel. As we work on curating all of our media into one location, we make it easy for you to access some videos, blogs, and podcasts about our trips over the years in our LinkTree (check the link in bio). Special shot out to @thesoflypodcast for documenting some amazing stories from last years trip. As always, thanks to @redingtongear for the support.

Enjoy and make it a goal to experience this amazing place at least once in your life! maybe with us? Inquire by DMing or email us at info@tacoflyco.com - #tacoflyco #magbay #magbaytacotour #redingtonsquad

We counted 7 boats at the first hole on the “secret” steelhead camp company river. Insane how much pressure this place gets now but hey, showing up is enough for us. Nice way to break up the trip and try to get a shot at some coastal steel and maybe a fired up Coho. @waders_and_wildrags, @vctmrider, and @graywolf420 were able to make it happen while the rest of the crew gave it their best shot. Ashley even got to get her strip set on a silver ripper using the same fly she used last year to swing up a salmon. We will be back next year and we will make that 7 boats count to 10. Cheers to @kenairiverrecon and @peninsula_sportfishing for the assist. #kenaipeninsula #notsosecret #steelhead #alaska

THE UPPER - I’ve mentioned it before, I only get to guide three days on the upper per year. I saved 2 days for the main Taco Tour. It’s insane up there. This year, the bite went from insanity on beads, to mega flesh, to real fishing, “gotta find the fish”, in just a few days. I say real fishing because this place can be just plain stupid. Like every cast stupid and sometimes it’s expected to be that way everyday. It was fun trying to figure it out in the short amount of time I was up there but have to send a shot out to @brandonstickel for helping to get me on em’. The wind didn’t allow us to go through the canyon this year, but we made due and had a blast. Thank you @kenairiverrecon and @kenairiverco for the assist with this crew. Great time spent with the Taco Family. You should come up next year. #aktacotour #kenaipeninsula #kenairiver #upperkenai

AK TACO TOUR 2026 - Taco doesn’t exist without you. Yes you reading this post. And you who joined the trip. And you who bought a sticker, booked a trip, liked a photo, lended a hand, or simply said what’s up on the river. It’s not ours. It’s yours to enjoy. So thank you for making trips like these possible. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you. 🫂❤️ #aktacotour #kenairiver #kenaipeninsula #familia

Kenai Peninsula Slayer - Swinging up Kenai River Bows on this combo has been an uplift for the Tour. Redington Classic Spey Reel with the 7wt 12’6” Olympus paired up with Rio 500 grain Skagit Max. @redingtongear @rioproducts #redingtonsquad #kenaipeninsula #alaska #aktacotour

The fight to protect public lands relies on a broad coalition around shared interests. In these moments we often hear cliches about putting our differences aside, but we believe that putting those differences in the open and grappling with the tensions they create is the most sustainable way to move through. Afterall, if community moves at the speed of trust, what trust can be built without integrity, vulnerability, and a commitment to doing the best we can with what we know, over and over? Moving through differences together strengthens the bonds of community.

When we join in these public lands conversations, we often brace ourselves for unexamined cliches. For instance, the idea of public lands as our great equalizer. It’s a great aspiration, but invisibilizes the violent legacy of dispossession of lands from Native Americans and the history of segregation and exclusion of people of color.

The truth is, the Nature Gap is a very real outcome of decades of displacement, redlining, razing, and structural violence. The benefits of nature and the impacts brought about by its destruction are not equally shared across communities. Just because the public lands fight is critical doesn’t mean we should lose sight of this reality. In fact, acknowledging the gap further reinforces the importance of keeping public lands intact. Why? The people who bear the greatest downstream impacts of climate disasters, natural or anthropogenic, are communities of color, lower income households, and rural communities. Rescinding policy like the Roadless Rule would only serve to increase climate destruction and widen the burden of the Gap, disproportionately affecting people most marginalized by systemic inequity.

While the road might be nuanced, the equation is simple: when we increase access that decreases the Nature Gap, we gain more people who can raise their voices in support of public lands. A grander coalition benefits us all. To meaningfully share understanding is to share in our own expertise while making space for the wisdom of others.
