POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but I'm so proud of this one that it's getting its own post and photoshoot 🤓

I started embroidering in August when I needed something to do instead of staring at @coltongoodfellowlll in his hospital bed. I realized that I really didn't have as many hobbies as I used to and decided that embroidery was compact enough to bring to and from the hospital.
I love it so much, it has reawakened a creative side of me that I haven't used in years. The trial and error has actually been half the fun. With this project I thought wool would be more compatible with the canvas because it's thicker/stiffer but now I have some loose wool fuzzies that are stuck to my stabilizer (that I'm diligently working on removing 😅). I'll keep it in mind for next time.
I post this because more than a few people messaged me asking about how to get into embroidery and if you've considered it, start with a kit and use Tik Tok or YouTube to help with the stitches. Just be patient with yourself.

This pattern is by @hooklinetinker (ily) and I used DMC eco wool

I’ve been at it long enough to start repurposing!

This is my first sewing project that didn’t get shoved into a corner to get abandoned. I scaled down a tote bag pattern and made some plush veggies for my kid to play “market.”

The result was cute as hell but I learned a lot along the way. Twill tape does not act like webbing. Interfacing weight matters. Slow waaaaay down when adding trim. Actually, slow down doing literally everything.

Incidentally, this pattern was my first ever embroidery. It’s called Henny Penny from @hooklinetinker and it was such an approachable kit that I took off and became an embroidery monster. That was my strategy: do a kit to learn a skill, then use those skills to do.. whatever I wanted. I did a cross stitch kit, this chicken, and then a satin-stitch mountain range, and I was home free from there.

Yesterday was the annual Merrickville Antique Show & Sale down at the Merrickville Fairgrounds.

When events take place at the Fairgrounds (especially ones like this) we get extra busy.

People have to drive/walk by our place (located on the REAL MAIN ST…!) to attend Fairgrounds events and then we get to benefit from the increased traffic.

Saturday was also a gorgeous day and Merrickville (being a ‘solar powered’ village) was hopping with tourists.

When the weather is nice people venture off St Lawrence (a Main Street, but not the REAL MAIN ST.) and walk around and discover us. (When it’s busy they’re also forced to park down here and then have to go by our place as well…)

Whatever the reason, we had an amazingly busy day and we appreciate everyone who came out to shop small and support local. Thank you!

Please note that we have an eclectic mix of old and new. Anything new we stock is CANADIAN MADE and we carry many things you can make yourself.

Sold items featured in this reel are from the following Canadian makers: comb by
@yukonplastics, pewter canoe by @basicspiritpewter, campfire poker by Ken Adam’s, stickers and pins by @carolyndraws , maple syrup by @grizzlywoods.ca , dried lavender sachet by @lavendermillsfarm , heart embroidery Kit by @hooklinetinker , carve your own soapstone dragon kit by @studiostonecreative , make your own ‘This & That’ bag by @genius_premium_craft_boxes , tiny ceramic cats by @dariiadziuba , cat sticker pack by @jodiedesigncorner , ‘Curated Collection’ containing incense by @shywolfcandles and incense burner by @a.girl.and.her.puppy , puzzle by @theoccurrence.ca , bracelets and earrings made from pennies by @lostthings.ca , handmade watercolour paintstones by @beampaints, miscellaneous vintage items sourced by @allthethings.merrickville

If you happened by our place yesterday and saw something that piqued your interest (eg. the gorgeous secretary desk at the end of the driveway), but didn’t pick it out. Please drop me a line and I’ll let you know if it’s still available. (As we live here, we can also be open by appointment.)

Thanks again!

So excited for my newest @hooklinetinker patterns! A cardinal to match my Blue Jay and a loon to round them out.

I’ve already got a collection of supplies, so I love they offer just the pre-printed fabric or a PDF as well as a full kit.
