Speaking of 45s and to get you in the right mood for the @welove45s event in Düsseldorf this weekend, I'll upload some older 45 mixes on bandcamp within the next days. Free download.

In the beginning of 2010 @hooray_83 and myself teamed up to do a 45 mix.

From the 'info sheet' back then:

The single (7", 45) – a timeless, classic pop format – has been making a strong comeback for several years now. It is ideal for artists and mainly indie labels to release music in small editions – often exclusive tracks, sometimes with special artwork.

A real treat for fans and connoisseurs, which is often also a collector's item due to the limited number of copies. This development can likewise be observed in the hip hop sector.

After Linz-based DJ Hooray (Hillbilly Souldiers) had already mixed his recent hip hop 45s at the beginning of 2009, Düsseldorf-based DJ Bene came up with the idea of a collaborative mix with hip hop 45s released in 2009.

Until now, there had only been pure hip hop 45 mixes with classic raps (Peanut Butter Wolf), but not with contemporary tracks. Bene and Hooray are now putting an end to this situation by gathering the best 45s of the past year in their mix. Hooray focuses on raps from around the globe, while Bene concentrates on beats that have been created worldwide.

It goes without saying that this one-hour mix features a lot of previously unheard tracks, some of them by lesser-known or unknown artists. The two DJs prove that hip hop can still be exciting and fresh with their complementary mixes. Sometimes change happens in small ways.
