Before going to be with Jesus at the age of 15, Hope Shaffer’s dream was to remove the financial burden for those who wanted to learn ballet, and for the Gospel to be spread through this mission. Today, that dream has become reality. The 6th annual Dancing for Eternity free summer camp has just come to a close. This was a precious week of new friendships, classical training, and learning God’s Word.

A special project for a special family 🕊️@hopedancingforeternigy is a nonprofit that hosts a completely free, week-long ballet summer camp where children and teens of all abilities come together to experience the beauty of dance, community, and self-expression. It’s a space filled with love, movement, and purpose, and I’m so honored to be Summer Camp Director and create something meaningful for such an incredible group.

🌸Dancing for Eternity 2025🌸

I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to describing how much this summer camp means to me. When someone you love passes away, all you want to do is find a way to honor them. For me, carrying out my friend’s legacy and living the lessons she taught through her way of life is how I do that.

I started volunteering with D4E when I was just 15, right after Hope passed. Now I’m 20, serving on the Board of Directors as the Summer Camp Director. Hope is still 15. I haven’t quite come to terms with how much time has passed, but if she were here today, I know without a doubt how proud she would be.

This summer, we welcomed 21 girls to a completely free camp, supported by a community that continues to show up with so much love. Every camper, every volunteer, and every moment we spend at this camp helps bring Hope’s dream to life. I am so proud of all the amazing people who I got to work with and the enormous amount of support I received from those around me, I am so grateful for everyone.

I don’t think I had a grasp on how lucky I am to be surrounded by such kind supportive people in my life before this and this experience has made me so grateful for them. I am so proud of Charla through all this she has remained one of the top role models in my life. She is an incredible influence not just to me, but also the campers we work with daily. The amount of love in my life make me so happy.

The hardest goodbyes are always the ones you never see coming. But the way Hope lived was truly beautiful and so full of love, laughter, and genuine kindness. I can only hope to carry even a piece of that in everything I do. I miss her every day, and I see her light in this camp and in the joy it brings to others. And that means everything.💕

💐There will be a booth in the lobby to buy flowers (while supply lasts) at recital on Saturday, May 24. All sales will go directly to Dancing for Eternity (D4E), a local non-profit organization founded in memory of Hope Shaffer, a 15-year-old aspiring ballerina. D4E currently provides full-season (Aug - June) scholarships to nine students in the OKC metro.

As a D4E studio partner, A Step Above is proud to have hosted a scholarship recipient in the 2024-2025 dance season and two in 2023-2024.
