40 Under 40 Spotlight: Amanda Christenson, Owner + Licensed Therapist at Hope Therapy 🌸

Eight years ago, Amanda had her own private practice and was happy there, when a previous boss asked her to go halfway with him in opening a second location of his therapy business. One year later, she took full ownership and started her own office: Hope Therapy.

On top of this, she is also an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy supervisor and adjunct faculty at BYU. Amanda’s healing words have touched countless lives through each of her roles.

Her ultimate dream? Make sure her therapists are happy and fulfilled, and for clients to get the best help possible. With locations in Spanish Fork and Orem, hope and healing is just around the corner.

A tiny snapshot of our Orem office! This was a huge project. We bought the office before my last baby was due and needed to furnish 3 rooms plus the lobby before he was born. Then we did 3 more rooms in December to be ready before the New Year. I'm really proud of Ed and I and our kids. They were such troopers on the many many shopping trips, nights and Saturdays at the office. Only one huge poop incident from my 2 year old, some precarious lifting of furniture up the stairs, plenty of expletives, and now a beautiful office space for our Orem therapists! It was so much fun to design everything and figure out how everything I bought would go together. When I run out of space to design my home, I always have office space to have fun with. @hopetherapyutah

Addicts are expert in the art of making lies—so adept that they seem to even fool themselves.
Like it says in the song, Gaslighter, by the Chicks: “You know you lie best when you lie to you.”
So those apologies dang well better be backed up by a drastic change of behavior…or it’s just another lie, lie, lie, lie, lie. 🎶👩🏻‍🎤

*AMANDA CHRISTENSON.*

Amanda Christenson is a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in working with couples dealing with sexual addiction and betrayal trauma. Amanda has training in EMDR for trauma, Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.

She is the owner of Hope Therapy located in Spanish Fork, UT where she supervises and trains all of the therapists there.

Amanda is a co-host of the soon to be released podcast, Not The Experts, which focuses on betrayal trauma resilience.

She is on the board of Reach10 @reach.10 and presents at BYU to train other therapists working with sexual addiction and betrayal trauma. Amanda and her husband have two little boys and another baby on the way.

See that door behind me?

That’s my safe place. That’s where I go to feel heard, understood, and uplifted.

That’s my therapists office.

When I was growing up I thought people went to therapy because they were somehow weaker, less effective at handling life’s challenges, and “just needed to suck it up.”

How naive of me.

It wasn’t until I experienced severe anxiety and depression myself that I went to see a therapist for the first time in my life. I was 19.

They (combined with medication), saved my life.

Now, 5 years later, there isn’t a month that goes by where I don’t see or talk to a therapist.

Therapy is a healing thing. It is an empowering thing. It is a GOOD thing.

To anyone who is contemplating seeing a therapist but doesn’t want to appear “weak,” here is some loving counsel:

1. YOU ARE NOT WEAK FOR BEING VULNERABLE.
2. GOING TO THERAPY SHOWS YOUR STRENGTH.
3. IT MAY TAKE MORE THAN ONE TRY AT THERAPY TO FIND THE RIGHT FIT.

I’m behind you 100% on your journey.

Now we just need to make it affordable and accessible for anyone and everyone to enjoy it.🙏🏼
