Pachycephalosaurus - #pachycephalosaurus was a genus of ornithischian dinosaur from the pachycephalosaurus family. It’s name means “Thick-headed Lizard” because of its large head. It lived during the late Cretaceous in what is now North America. Remains of pachycephalosaurus have been found as far back as 1860. It was then described by Joseph Leidy in 1872, giving it the name “Tylosteus,” claiming that it was an armadillo-like animal. It wasn’t until 1931 where Pachycephalosaurus got the name we know today. It was named by Charles W. Gilmore. Pachycephalosaurus grew to around 14.8 ft long, and weighed around 990 lbs. It had a skull that was 10 inches thick, which was probably used for sparring in a similar fashion to bighorn sheep. It’s neck attached to the bottom of the skull, unlike many other dinosaurs where the neck attached to the back. While it is not entirely known what these animals may have eaten, it is thought that they fed on fruits, seeds, leaves, and possibly even meat. It has also been debated whether or not Dracorex and Stigymoloch, two other genera of pachycephalosaurs, are just juvenile Pachycephalosauruses. | Drawn for @kajssiab and her “big forehead” | #dinosaur #dinosaurs #animal #animals #extinct #bird #reptile #ornithischian #jurassicpark #jurassicworld #prehistory #prehistoric #paleontology #zoology #art #paleoart #sciart #traditionalart #drawing #illustration
