This Post is for the Guys in the North Jersey District. A Yr before Dicky "Mez" moved to Fla. He asked me to take a ride with him, the Surf was flat that day. So I jumped in his Dodge Tradesman Van and we headed North. Little did I know, I would be meeting all the guys that Rule a certain Surf Area up there. I had been there before and paddled out at NJ's only legit Point Break, caught a few waves, no one knew me, but I happend to be with Charlie King and they all knew him. So I actually got some very long fun sized waves. Then on this Trip with Mez, I actually met most of those guys on a personal level. Mez was setting the tone for me, little did I realize right then, but it hit me pretty soon after. He was moving to Fla. to start ESM Surf Magazine and was pretty much leaving me to take over for him up in NJ. What an honor and a privilege to have that bestowed on me. First Stop Jimmy "Jah" Hines (RIP) Condo overlooking the iconic Surf Break. 2nd Stop Danny Shields house of which he wasn't home but his wife told us he was working on a house just down the street with his dad. Then we stopped at Joe Schluter's Surf Factory and I met Joe and a few of the other guys. It was a Great Day in 1986. Then in 1987, I actually got to shoot the boys at 1st Jetty. After this Session, I went up a few times to try to shoot but Conditions weren't quite right. The next time I shot there was in 1997, got a call from Ronnie Jackson telling me it was on and I should come up and shoot. For that Session, I had one Surfer with me, at the time Danny Margagliano was a Professional Sponsored Surfer, always a great guy. I told him to be ultra respectful out there. That I don't usually bring anyone here, but we had been trying to score some good surf photos together for a while. Earlier that same yr., 1997. I scored photos of Rol Woolson at what I call the end of the World...and it was good. These are a few of the 1987 Photos of the Boys. Scott "The General" Thompson, Jimmy "Jah" Hines, Danny Shields, and very young Dave Hopper, and Russel Ford. The next Post will feature the 1997 Photos.
ENJOY!
